November 2018 Newsletter
Voting, Veterans, the Saints, and Stewardship

Dear Friends,

I am always grateful for the close proximity of Election Day and Veterans Day on the calendar. It seems to me that exercising one’s civic responsibility to vote is a tangible way to honor the sacrifices that all veterans, whether living or dead, have made. Perhaps when you’re waiting in line to vote on Tuesday November 6th you might think about a veteran that you know, and give thanks for his or her service to our country.

November is a busy month here at Transfiguration. Following are some highlights:

The Sunday after All Saints Day, November 4th
At the 8:00 and 10:15 services on Sunday November 4 th (the Sunday after All Saints Day) the names of departed loved ones will be read aloud as part of the Prayers of the People. If you did not have the opportunity to write a name on the list that was posted last Sunday, I will leave time after the names are read so that you can say a name aloud or in your heart.

Veterans honored at both services on Sunday Nov 11th
Sunday November 11th is Veteran’s Day, and we will honor all veterans of the armed forces with special prayers and recognition at each service. After each service there will be a festive red-white-and-blue coffee hour. All loose plate offerings on that day will be donated to Patriot Packages, a Missouri-based organization that sends care packages to U.S. troops stationed around the world (see for more information). You may also donate by writing a check payable to Transfiguration Church with “Patriot Packages” in the memo line.

Pledge Ingathering Sunday on November 18th
The Vestry has asked that all pledges be received no later than Sunday November 18th. There is still time to mail your pledge to the church office or place it in the offering plate on Sunday morning. All pledges will be brought forward for a blessing at each service on November 18th.

Joint Thanksgiving Eve Service with Trinity Episcopal Church
Our long-standing custom has been to join with our neighbors at Trinity Church on Thanksgiving Eve for a special service. This year the service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 318 So. Duchesne Dr., St. Charles on Wednesday November 21 at 7:00 pm.  The Rev. Tamsen Whistler will be the celebrant, and the Rev. Lu-Anne Conner will preach. Please come and bring your family, your neighbors, and any out-of-town guests who have arrived early for the next day’s feast.

Faithfully yours,

The Rev. Lu-Anne Conner,
On Sunday October 21 at the 8:00 am service we said goodbye to Tom and Mary Wagner, who are relocating to the Chicago area. We are so grateful for the love and kindness and many gifts and talents that they brought to this congregation. Godspeed, Tom and Mary. We will miss you greatly.

The Vestry has recently appointed a Nominating Committee to help recruit candidates for the following positions:
3 three-year vestry members
1 one-year vestry member (filling an unexpired term)
1 three-year delegate to Diocesan Convention
1 one-year alternate delegate to Diocesan Convention

These positions will be filled by election at our Annual Meeting on Sunday January 27, 2019. To be eligible to be nominated for a Vestry or Delegate position, a person must be a Communicant in good standing, be at least 18 years old, and have been a member of the Parish for at least one year.

Nomination forms are now available from any Nominating Committee member which detail the responsibilities and requirements for each position. If you are interested in becoming involved in a leadership role in our church, serving on church committees to expand our ministries, and help develop plans for the future growth of Transfiguration, this is your opportunity.

The Nominating Committee will present a list of nominees to the Vestry at its December meeting, and the Vestry will approve a final slate. Please contact any member of the Nominating Committee* for further information. You will also find Nomination forms on the side table in the Narthex.

*Members of the Nominating Committee are Chuck Laney (636-561-3326), Jennie Kelly (636-734-1549), Larry Hopen (636-485-5429), Jeanette Hollmann (636-625-0515), and the Rev. Lu-Anne Conner (ex-officio).
We would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who supported our  Trivia Night  on Friday, Oct 5th. Whether you attended, purchased a table, volunteered to work at the event or donated basket items or gift cards, your support helped us to have one of our most successful Fall Fundraisers as  we raised $9601.81!  These proceeds will provide substantial funding for Transfiguration’s many outreach programs and our ministries. Please pass our gratitude on to your family and friends who joined us for the event.
