COMOM 2018 Provides Over 1,100 with Free Care

The Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM) held its 12 th  annual free dental clinic Nov. 2 and 3 in Greeley.  More than 1,100 adults and children, who could not afford dental care, were provided with free oral healthcare services at Island Grove Regional Park. During the two-day clinic, patients underwent dental procedures amounting to more than $1,000,000 in donated care!

New Opioid Prescribing Policies for Medicare and Medicaid

E-prescribing will be required for opioids dispensed to Medicare patients by 2021. Colorado Medicaid limits opioid prescriptions by dentists to a four-day supply with certain exceptions.  Take a look at the state and federal updates.

Phishing, Hacking and Scamming - Don't Be a Victim

Two weeks ago, several members received fake emails instructing them to pay their membership invoices. Within the emails, members were told to wire funds to pay their dues. This phishing scam has been investigated and linked to an out-of-state bank account. A police report has been filed and the situation will continue to be monitored. Educate your office about cyber hacks.  Here are some tips to avoid being a victim of hacking.
Seeking Dental Presenters for Middle School Students

Community Resources, Inc. is seeking volunteers to deliver career-focused presentations to students at Denver Public Schools. Speakers are encouraged to discuss their day-to-day agendas, why they chose their career path, and how they got there.  Learn more.

The Colorado Dental Board is seeking volunteers to serve on a committee that will review anesthesia permit applications. Office of the State Auditor Reviews State Medicaid Program

In October, dentists who participate in Medicaid may have received a notice that the Colorado Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is reviewing the state Medicaid program's claim processing.  From our research, it appears that this audit is likely focused on Medicaid and vendor processes as opposed to provider behavior.  Learn more.

CDA Members Remembered

Dr. Relton W. Spotts, CDA member for 60 years, passed away Aug. 6, 2018 in Boulder with his family by his side. Dr. Spotts attended the Washington University (St. Louis) School of Dentistry and practiced for 37 years after serving in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. Read his full obituary.

Dr. Richard M. Nelson, CDA member for 54 years, passed away peacefully in Denver on Oct. 15, 2018. Dr. Nelson received his D.D.S. from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and then served as a lieutenant for two years in the U.S. Navy. He later attended the University of Kansas City School of Dentistry and practiced oral and maxillofacial surgery for 50 years. Read his full obituary.
