Governance
At its meeting on October 25, 2019, in Alexandria, the Virginia State Bar Council heard the following significant reports and took the following actions .
 
Effective immediately, the Supreme Court of Virginia has approved amended LEOs 1750 and 1872. The Court also amended Part Six, Section II, Rule 4.4, to take effect December 1, 2019, and Part Six, Section IV, Paragraph 13, effective December 1, 2019. Full story here .

The Court also rejected a proposed amendment to Rule 3.8 concerning additional responsibilities of a prosecutor.
The VSB needs lawyers to serve in leadership roles on the Executive Committee of Bar Council, the Clients’ Protection Fund Board, and the Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee. The Bar also needs lawyers and non-lawyers to join the disciplinary system and serve on the district committees that review complaints  and investigations against attorneys in their jurisdiction. How about YOU?! 
 
Jay B. Myerson of Reston is the Virginia State Bar president-elect designee for 2021-22. Myerson was unopposed in his bid for the presidency. 
 
A Supreme Court of Virginia advisory committee  seeks comments on proposed amendments  to the Rules of Court regarding deposition notices and the alternative pretrial order for eminent domain cases. Comments due Dec 12 .

Compliance
The 2019 CLE year ended on October 31, 2019. Active attorneys will be mailed their 2019 MCLE Form 1 End of Year Report in approximately two weeks. If your Form 1 is correct and you have no additions or corrections to make, no further action is required. 

All CLE hours, whether used for compliance or carryover, must be reported to our office no later than 4:45 pm on December 15, 2019.  Fax and emails are not accepted for Form 1 Compliance. Contact the Regulatory Compliance MCLE Department with questions: (804) 775-0577.

Call for Nominations!

Know of a leader in the law? The Criminal Law Section is seeking entries for the  Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Award , and the Section on the Education of Lawyers requests nominations for the  William R. Rakes Leadership in Education Award .
 
The Family Law Section is seeking nominations for two awards:  The Betty A. Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award  and the  Family Law Service Award . The nomination deadline for both awards is January 24, 2020. Both awards will be presented at the annual Family Law Seminar in April 2020 at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond.
