We were pleased to have Mary Beth Lohman as our guest speaker at the October meeting. She was the Pacific Business News ' publisher before joining Assistance League of Hawaii in 2012. She was perfect for the Public Relations Chairman position as she used her expertise to promote Assistance League to the Community. 

Mary Beth went back to work full-time shortly after as Waikiki Health's Director of Marketing & Development where she is responsible for marketing and promoting Waikiki Health's mission. She expressed her appreciation for our We Care Program that serves their Youth Outreach Program by providing hygiene kits, etc. to homeless teenagers that visit their clinic. They provide a place for these teenagers to hang out and have a hot meal during the afternoon to early evening. She misses Assistance League of Hawaii and has expressed interest in rejoining us again in a few years.

This month's Meeting on November 13 will feature our Philanthropic Programs.

During our March Evaluation Meetings, members emphasized the need for the most current information about all of our programs and to provide opportunities for new member volunteers to quickly join. Bonnie Trustin, Philanthropic Program Chairman, has been working with the Chairmen from Operation School Bell (OSB), Operation Wildlife (OWL), We Care, Share, and Outreach who will speak on what they do, and how to participate. You're encouraged to come and learn about our programs (which are why we exist) and all the services we provide to the community. You'll be surprised to hear about all the things that our programs do!

Lastly, I would like to say while participating in the OSB Shopping Events the last few months, I've noticed the smiles and beaming faces of the children that came to the store and walked away with huge bags of new school clothing and shoes. This would not be possible if it were not for all of you putting in your time and talents to make it go so smoothly; from working in the Thrift Shop to volunteering at the event! All of you have shown that you are Priceless. A "Big Mahalo" goes out to all of you for choosing to volunteer at Assistance League of Hawaii! Your acts of kindness are small, but the impact that is left with each child is huge!

 

We are selling $10 tickets to our Thrift Shop customers for our Christmas Preview, scheduled for Monday, November 4, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Tickets entitle up to 50 customers to have first access to all of our Christmas merchandise. Please tell your friends and relatives about this opportunity. (Assistance League of Hawaii members are not eligible for this event due to our Self-dealing Policy.) 

 

The Thrift Shop will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but we will be open on Black Friday, November 29, from 9:30-3:00. We wouldn't want to miss out on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. We will need lots of help that day both downstairs and upstairs.

Assistance League of Hawaii program chairs will be speaking about the important work their committees do to help people in our communities. Details on what they do and what you can do to help will be presented.
