Greetings Grassland Enthusiasts!

Last month, we had Dr. Mark Brigham from the University of Regina give a webinar entitled: "Goatsuckers: The enigma of feathered bats", just in time for Halloween as part of o ur Native Prairie Speaker Series. We also had two presentations by  Dr. Ray Poulin from the Royal Saskatchewan Museum discuss rare snakes in Eastend and Mankota, he even brought a live snake to the presentations! A big thank you to October's presenters!  If you missed any of these presentations, the recordings are available on our YouTube Channel

We also had a great meeting with representatives from 19 out of 28 partners on October 1 & 2, with interesting discussions, updates from partners and working a PCAP Partnership working map.

I'm excited to announce that in partnership with the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association, Sask Forage Council and the Saskatchewan Soil Conservation Association, we will be screening the Guardians of the Grasslands twice this month, once in Regina on November 14th at the Rex Schneider Auditorium, Luther College on the U of R campus and once in Saskatoon on November 19th at the Roxy Theater. Come join us for the film, followed by a panel discussion with grassland experts!

We are please to have Dr. Lisha Berzins from the School of Environment and Sustainability presenting a webinar on November 21st at noon. You can register here .

On November 21st, PCAP is also partnering with SODCAP and Nature Saskatchewan to host a multi-species workshop in Eastend, SK. It includes a free afternoon of presentations and a ranch-planning activity, followed by a free supper. See more information below!

SK PCAP will also have a booth in the Family Ag Pavilion at Agribition (November 25-30) again this year! The PCAP staff is working on more interactive displays for the kids and families coming through the Pavilion. If you or anyone you know who would like to volunteer at our booth, please let me know! Volunteering includes admission to Agribition!

Finally, we would like to thank the generous support from our sponsors: Crescent Point Energy, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SaskTel, SaskWater,  Mosaic, Enbridge, EcoFriendly Sask, Wildlife Habitat Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada, as well as the continuous support of all the PCAP's  Partners

PCAP Partner Spotlight...
Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre
Submitted by Lori Johnson, SBOIC

The Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre (SBOIC) opened its doors to the public in July 1997 and ever since we have been dedicated to raising public awareness about Canada's endangered species, specifically the Burrowing Owl and their prairie habitat. The Centre's mandate is to promote conservation through education, eco-tourism and stewardship and we do this through in-house tours and displays as well as a traveling component known as Owls on Tour which is highlighted by the participation of 3 hand-raised ambassador owls. Over the years our flock has expanded to include a Short Eared Owl, and several Richardson's ground squirrels.

The wild population of Burrowing Owls in Canada has been steadily decreasing since the 1980's and in 1995 they were officially declared an endangered species. If this population trend continues these amazing, unique owls could become extirpated from the Canadian prairies!

You can help by attending "Carniv-owl", our 19th annual fundraiser, on Saturday, November 23, 1-5 pm at the Moose Jaw Convention Centre. There will be games, prizes, food and drinks. Advanced tickets on sale now; $35.00 for a family of 4 or $10/person. Advanced ticket holders receive 5 FREE tokens per ticket which can be used for games and/or food. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Come meet our ambassador owls, have lots of fun, and help the Centre raise funds for our owls and our educational programs.
