Greetings from the Harraseeket Inn! Thanksgiving is fast approaching and right on its heels this year comes Christmas. Holiday shopping's already in full swing here in Freeport and the Broad Arrow Tavern is abuzz with festive diners. On-line shopping may be popular, but it doesn't have the social benefits of window shopping with friends. 'Tis the season for eating, and then eating some more, starting with turkey day, of course, and then proceeding through all the holiday parties that lead up to Christmas.  For most of us it's a tough time of year for sticking to diets and our New Years resolutions ultimately thanksgiving desserts reflect our lack of self control.

Speaking of food, if you haven't made your
Thanksgiving Grand Buffet reservations yet, it may be too late, but we can put you on our wait list and you can console yourself with the kitchen staff thought that you won't be consuming all these delectable calories, which might not be much of a consolation when you imagine the bountiful feast you'll be missing.  For those of you who'll be joining us, be sure to save room for dessert!  Our kitchen staff has been working non-stop prepping for the big feast.  It's amazing how much goes into  preparing to serve such a grand buffet.  We hope to see you on the special day! ice carving thanksgiving

Speaking of special days, this past Sunday afternoon while sitting in the back office working on audits, I happened to glance up as a motorcycle pulled into registration parking.  Behind the driver of the bike, sitting perfectly erect, forelegs firmly gripping the young man's shoulders, was a very handsome Siberian husky wearing a helmet and a pair of googles.

It was Veterans Day weekend and the inn was very busy. In a matter of moments these new arrivals were being mobbed by a crowd of astonished onlookers, myself included.  Even if you don't like dogs or motorcycles, this was an extraordinary event to witness and photograph.
The handsome and laid back Siberian's name is Sox, and he's known as "The-Bike-Dog" on Instagram, so if you want to check them out and follow along on their adventures, here's the link .

Sox and his special person are best friends and traveling partners who've logged over eightyTHOUSAND road miles in the past ten years in their quest to visit all of America's national parks. They'd just come all the way from Acadia National Park on a raw and overcast November day.  Cold traveling indeed on a motorcycle, taking into account the unseasonably low temps and the wind chill, and they were understandably looking forward to a warm overnight at the inn, basking in the warmth of a real fireplace
How did this special Siberian learn how to be a biker?  This article gives some of the back story.  We love all our four legged guests here at the inn and have hosted many special dogs who've brought smiles to our faces over the years, but my biggest regret when Sox arrived on the back of that motorcycle is that while I was gesturing wildly and saying "Look, look!" to our dog loving front desk staff, they were so busy juggling the usual myriad of tasks like answering the phone, checking people in and taking reservations, that they didn't have time to see this amazing sight.

We wish safe travels to the cool bike dog Sox and his best pal Michael. Freeport's a very dog friendly town and we hope they enjoyed their stay enough to return when the weather is milder.  But I wouldn't blame them if they headed for a warmer national park.
