November 2019
Greetings!

Here's the latest information about things going on in the Borough of Pompton Lakes this month, assembled and produced by the Public Information Department.
Mayor Serra's Message
Veterans Day is an important day for showing our appreciation towards members of our military.  Please join the Mayor and Council during the Borough of Pompton Lakes Annual Veterans Day Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, November 13 th , 6:30pm at the Carnavale Center as we recognize those who are serving or have served our country. We must remain mindful of those Veterans who serve our Country protecting our freedoms and values as a nation. Remember to express your appreciation and gratitude not only on Veterans Day but every day by simply acknowledging a Veteran for their service.

Another group I would like to recognize is our Chamber of Commerce. The Pompton Lakes Chamber of Commerce are a local organization of businesses, professionals and eateries who promote the community. The Pompton Lakes Chamber of Commerce members serve as spokespeople and representatives for our business community by stimulating growth in the business district. Members organize events and activities throughout the calendar year; Annual Car Show and Holiday Stroll. I thank the members for their continued support in making our business district an inviting community to shop in.

A reminder that leaf pick up has begun and to revert to the Town Calendar for the garbage and leaf pick up schedules.  I would also like to thank residents for their patience and adhering to the new State Regulated Recycling changes that recently occurred. The Borough and the DPW has worked diligently to inform residents by means of social media, the Borough website, Channel 77, WGHT Radio and the notification system to inform residents of the modifications made to recyclables.

The Borough Health Department provides free and moderate cost health programs and clinics that are available to residents. This month’s programs include Free Rabies Clinic at the Firehouse, Stroke Screening, and Flu Vaccines. Please visit the Borough website, Facebook and channel 77 for full details.

Please remember Election Day, Tuesday, November 5 th , polls are open from 6:00am – 8:00pm and refer to your sample ballot for your voting district.

In Closing, I would like to wish everyone a Safe Thanksgiving Holiday.

Until next time,

Mayor Michael Serra

Teen Driver Safety
Parents, teach your teen driver to be a safe driver during National Teen Driver Safety Week, and every day thereafter. If they can't handle the rules of the road, they can't handle the keys to the car.
Become familiar with New Jersey's graduated driver license (GDL) restrictions. Remind your teen that driving is a privilege, not a right, and it must always be taken seriously.
Fraud Notice
We have taken several recent reports regarding attempted fraud. Residents are receiving calls from individuals who are identifying themselves as representatives from the Social Security Administration . During the phone calls, the individuals are advising the residents they are under investigation due to their social security
card being linked to money laundering and drug trafficking crimes. We are reminding individuals that you should never agree to wire money or provide any personal information over the phone. If confidential information is given out, we recommend that you respond to police headquarters to file a police report. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
Community ShareCam Program
Community Share Cam is a community safety program instituted by the Pompton Lakes Police Department which allows both residents and businesses to partner with the PLPD in the fight against crime throughout the Borough. Simply by registering YOUR home or business surveillance system with the Pompton Lakes Police, YOU can be an invaluable asset in solving crimes in your neighborhood.
When a crime occurs in your neighborhood, the Pompton Lakes Police will call on YOU and request a copy of YOUR video footage. This footage will help establish leads, identify suspects and save valuable investigative time. All registered camera locations are stored in a secure database and are entered into our Records Management System allowing the PLPD to map out locations of cameras throughout the Borough. Community ShareCam DOES NOT provide the Pompton Lakes Police with direct access to YOUR surveillance system. Residents and businesses will only be contacted by the PLPD in the event of a crime occurring in the area of your camera coverage.
