November 2019  |  Vol. 71, No. 6
TLARGI is a Subdivision of the Rubber Division, ACS
Where has the time gone? We're already entering the home stretch of the calendar year! I hope you all had a fun Halloween and are enjoying the cooler weather as we prepare for the fall holiday season. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, and pumpkin lattes are all here to bring in the essence of fall. Enjoy it while you can because, according to Costco, Christmas is the next holiday!

As usual, TLARGI's annual Technical Conference, Mini Expo, and Oktoberfest Dinner Meeting were a huge success. Dr. Ragin Amrutiya prepared an excellent slate of presenters and topics for the Technical Conference. Congratulations to VIP Rubber & Plastics Co. for being voted as the best table of the Expo with their entertaining version of "Fear Factor." Thank you to Robert White and the prize committee, as well as the companies and individuals that donated the thoughtful gifts for the prize drawing. And, a warm thank you to Sean Djuricic for emceeing the Dinner Meeting.

The Nominating and Elections Committee has prepared a slate of nominees for the upcoming elections. Thank you to all members who have volunteered for the opportunity to participate on the board. Without our membership participation on the board and committees, we would have no TLARGI. So, again, thank you very much! To all members, please be sure to vote when you receive your ballots in the coming days. If you would like a paper ballot packet, please contact Scott Kearns by this Friday, November 8th, at or 562.343.9982, ext. 103.

Deena Campana, with her new Co-Chair, Cindy LeClair, and the Christmas Party Committee are completing the final details for the upcoming Christmas Party. They will be taking us to the Hilton Orange County Costa Mesa. It's been a very accommodating venue for us the last couple of years, so were looking forward to returning for another great night. Back by popular demand, Vanity Fair will be providing the musical entertainment. Don't forget to bring your new, unwrapped toy to support the Spark of Love Toy Drive. This will help a young boy or girl have a brighter Christmas. The donation box will be set up in front of the ballroom. See the full write up on the event page for all the details, including registration, hotel booking, and deadline information.

Thank you for your support and participation.

In Memoriam
Edward Brislin, a longtime resident of Orange, California, and former TLARGI Member, passed away on September 23, 2019, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann, and his brothers, Donald and John. Survivors include, sister-in-law, Carolyn (Donald), former sister-in-law, Patricia (John), nephews, nieces, and their children.
For 41 years, Ed pursued a career in the rubber industry, employed by the DuPont Co., Exxon Chemical Co. and R.T. Vanderbilt Co. After working in Delaware, London and New York, Ed met Mary Ann during a business trip to Cleveland. Shortly after their marriage, Ed and Mary Ann moved to Richfield, Ohio; ten years later to Newport Beach, California. Ed was a lifelong amateur equestrian and an avid golfer.

Ed suggested that memorial donations be sent to the Disabled American Veterans at, in honor of his wife, Mary Ann, who heartily supported this organization.
