Virtual Parade of Homes a Huge Success!

The Virtual Parade of Homes was promoted heavily from Oct 10-24. The website, which featured  9 properties, had nearly 3000 visitors who spent more than 4 minutes on average viewing content with 15,965 page views. This site will be up until March at www.UpNorthHomeTour.com. Facbook posts and ads reached 74,160 people and the FB videos were viewed 28,595 times. These are great statistics from viewers not only in Northern Michigan, but also from the Detroit suburbs and Grand Rapids areas where many vacation home owners live.

Don't Lose Focus on COVID Worksite Safety from the HBA of Michigan

In recent days, with COVID cases on the rise all across the state, we've had a number of members ask about the potential shutdown of our industry. While we will continue to advocate that the residential construction sector is essential and should remain open to ensure that our state's citizens have access to safe and needed housing, the best way to help underscore this message is to make sure you are instituting work safe practices on your job site. These practices will not only protect you and your employees but also your customers and their families.

The Michigan Occupational Health and Safety Administration has issued rules cover both general precautions applicable to all businesses and specific requirements for construction.
Click here for an infographic on these new enforceable rules. Additional information can be found at  www.michigan.gov/covidworkplacesafety.

Members who follow the
 COVID safety plan for residential construction template  (which was developed with the help of both your national and state HBA) will be in compliance with these rules. Some, but not all, of the requirements for construction under the new emergency rules are as follows:
  1. Wear masks. Wash your hands frequently. As much as possible, practice social distancing. Create dedicated entry point(s) at every worksite, if possible, for daily screening as provided in Rule 6 of these rules, or in the alternative issue stickers or other indicators to employees to show that they received a screening before entering the worksite that day;
  2. Identify choke points and high-risk areas where employees must stand near one another;
  3. Control access & use of these areas to maintain social distancing. Consider use of physical barriers to control access;
  4. Create protocols for minimizing personal contact upon delivery of materials to the worksite;
  5. Provide instruction to employees as to how distribution of PPE will be handled and also provide training to employees on proper disposal of PPE, including designating certain areas for disposal of soiled PPE;
  6. Where there is risk of skin contact with contaminated surfaces, require the use of appropriate work gloves for the task. Train employees in using the appropriate type of glove when using cleaning chemicals;
  7. Employers who are engaged in multiple work sites must restrict employee movements between different sites; group employees together; discourage ride sharing.
Bottom line: Please don't take these requirements lightly. Help us demonstrate that our industry can and will continue to operate safely.

NOTE FROM JANET CHAMBERS, EO, HBANM -- There have been an increasing number of COVID cases in our area among both builders and suppliers. Please be vigilant with your work crews in keeping COVID safe!  If you need any COVID safety resources, please contact us and we will track down the information you need.
