Message from Magnus
In robotics, we talk about the “sense, plan, act” paradigm. Before you can act effectively, you need a plan, and for that you need data. The same is true for academic leadership. I have spent the last few months meeting with and listening to the Samueli School of Engineering’s stakeholders: faculty, staff, students, UCI leadership, alumni, corporate partners and government agencies. And one thing that has been remarkably consistent across all of those meetings is that I have felt welcome from day one, as is clearly on display in one of this month’s stories. The stakeholder input has been invaluable and will help us shape the school’s future direction.

Best,
Magnus Egerstedt, Ph.D.
