November 2021
Art Appreciation
Art Appreciation classes have been a mainstay of our catalog for years, from guided tours to museum previews and virtual visits to lectures covering particular artists, periods, or styles.

Two in-person tours are yet to come in the fall schedule. Next Saturday, November 13, 2021, Riva Blumenfeld leads students through Artists' Studios in Bushwick (Course 10883). This walking tour provides a unique opportunity to meet four different artists and explore their studios. Blumenfeld serves as a guide again on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, for Contemporary Galleries of New York City (Course 10734), a curated exploration of the most exciting galleries on display at that moment in time. Past destinations have included Tribeca, Chelsea, and the Upper East Side. The location for the next trip will depend on which neighborhood offers the most promising exhibits.
November and December Zoom classes include the final five installments of Page Knox's Artists of the Non Finito Wednesday series at 11 a.m., in which she will showcase Jan van Eyck (Course 10691), El Greco (Course 10692), Rembrandt (Course 10693), Rubens (Course 10695), and Velázquez (Course 10696).

Also finishing up is Sabine Wilson's Venice Through the Eyes of Artists series at 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoons. The last in that sequence will examine French Impressionists (Course 10812). For more impressionism, be sure to catch Jeffrey Mishur's Impressionism and Still Life: Fine Art of Food (Course 10785) at 11:30 a.m. this Monday, November 8, 2021. The following week, on Monday, November 15, 2021, at 11 a.m., Jane Royal explores the lives and careers of Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt, and Eva Gonzalez in Les Trois Grandes Dames of Impressionism (Course 10817).

Classes on artists Jackson Pollock (Course 10679) at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 with Jill Kiefer, and Julie Mehretu (Course 10777) at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, with Riva Blumenfeld are also still on the horizon.

In our final museum virtual visit of 2021, Blumenfeld transports students at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, to the New Museum to see and learn about Grief & Grievance: Art And Mourning in America (Course 10774). Earlier this year, that exhibit brought together the work of 37 artists of different generations whose art addresses the mourning, commemoration, and loss associated with racist violence across the United States.
In recognition of the seasonal holidays, Jeffrey Mishur introduces two themed classes to close out the year. Table Gatherings in Art History: Meals and Celebrations from da Vinci to Rockwell (Course 10786) will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021. A Christmas Canvas: Paintings of the Nativity Story (Course 10784) meets at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021.

Register now for the final art appreciation classes of the fall. Stay tuned as we begin to add classes for winter 2022.
