We don’t have to, we get to
This statement is one I have often referenced over the last two decades while working as Executive Director for the Georgia Milk Producers. Rather than looking at work or meetings as something that I had to do, I would pause to take a moment to be grateful for the opportunity to work, learn and strengthen relationships. Each day presents me with opportunities; I just have to decide how far I want to take them.
There are chores that we all MUST do daily, like milking and feeding cows, replacing faulty equipment, scraping out the barn, laundry, and feeding our families. That's life; we must do what is necessary to live and to earn a living. However, after completing our "duties", what we do next really does determine how far we will excel in life.
The saying "we don't have to, we get to" has a message that each of us can reflect on daily. It is so easy to lose sight of how fortunate we really are or to miss opportunities each day to better ourselves, our businesses, and our future.
As I gather around the table this week with my family, I will pause to thank God for His many blessings both personally and professionally. For twenty-two years, dairy farmers have welcomed me into their homes and into their businesses. You have shared your triumphs and tribulations with me as we navigated all that impacted Georgia’s dairy industry. I am truly honored.
There is no easy way to announce to my Georgia dairy farm families and industry partners that I have decided to move on from my current position as Executive Director of Georgia Milk Producers. It is time for someone to transition into this role and fulfill the mission of this strong dairy grassroots organization. I will work through the end of January 2022 to ensure that we have another successful Georgia Dairy Conference in Savannah. I will not leave the dairy industry in my next role and will share my new position with you all in January.
I am extremely grateful and humble for all this organization has given to me.
I am excited for what the future holds and will continue to work on behalf of Southeast dairy farm families moving forward. I don’t have to, I get to.
Much love to you all and Happy Thanksgiving,
Farrah Newberry
