All of us at NACMS wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving. This newsletter has several opportunities for you to plug in your earbuds and listen to our podcast or Advent reflections as well as watch videos of the 1981 General Chapter and our homage to Father Joseph Stefanelli's 100th anniversary of his birth.
In this episode, Patti and Sr. Gabby share an interview they did with Marianist artist and photographer Brother John Lemker. Brother John just completed 70 years of profession as a Marianist, and much of his religious life has been filled with his greatest passions: faith, science, and photography. We talk to him about his photography, how he finds God--the "original artist"--in nature, and how he combines faith, science, and art in the work he does. You don't want to miss it! Each week of Advent we will be releasing short podcasts that are meditations on one aspect of Mary's life related to Advent. This is the first episode of our Advent Marian Meditations, and it is about the Annunciation. We hope you can pray with this podcast, perhaps as a new prayer practice for Advent. This podcast features a Scripture reading, reflection questions, and soothing music to lead you deeper into prayer. Come back next week for the next episode on the Immaculate Conception. We have added "The Best of Quest" lectionary-based resource for use by small Christian communities to our webpage. Drawing upon a rich corpus of almost 30 years from "Quest," a publication produced by the Archdiocese of Hartford, this installment of "The Best of Quest" focuses on Liturgical Year C. In 1981, brothers and priests of the Society of Mary (Marianists) gathered from around the world in Linz, Austria with an enormous task at hand: finalizing their new Rule of Life. This video, produced by the North American Center for Marianist Studies, features interviews with some of the brothers and priests from the United States who attended this chapter, as well as photographs and documents from the time during and before the chapter, to tell the story of how the new Rule was made. This video project came about through an invitation from Father Oscar Vasquez, Provincial of the Marianist Province of the United States, asking NACMS to produce something that would record the living memory of the General Chapter of 1981, which wrote the revision of the Constitutions – The Rule of Life. This video includes the thinking behind the need to revise the Constitution, recollections by Marianists who were at that General Chapter, and reveals the legacy of this Rule of Life that was written 40 years ago.
