Reminder to all families

If your child is quarantined due to COVID exposure or a positive COVID test, please inform Mrs. Mascaro as soon as possible. This will allow us to inform close contacts in a timely fashion. We are aware that there can be long waits for test results. Below is a link to a location in McKeesport that provides results in one to two days.

Grateful for Our School Community

We’ve had an amazing start to this school year. Our Trunk-or-Treat activity was a huge success! I am constantly reminded of how generous and thoughtful our community is—and what wonderful things we can accomplish for our children when we collaborate. As we begin our 2nd quarter, I want to express my sincere gratitude for all that the students, parents, faculty and staff do to make Sacred Heart such a special place. I’m looking forward to more fall adventures!

Dress Code Update

Today is November 2nd, which means that polo shirts will no longer be permitted. Please see the Dress Code policy found in the Sacred Heart Student Handbook pages 17-18 for more details. Remember that the newest addition to the uniform—the red crewneck Sacred Heart Crusaders sweatshirt—can be worn with a button down collar visible underneath. No hoodies of any kind should be worn during class.

Change of Dismissal

If your child’s dismissal plans change, please use the Change of Dismissal Form and send to Ms. Linda in the office ([email protected]). Our teachers are very busy during the day and they may not have a chance to check their emails.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Thursday, November 4 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm and

Friday, November 5 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

The first quarter of the school year ended on October 28, 2021, and all families responded to a Google form to choose their preferred day and time. You should have received an email about when to come in for your conferences, or to set-up an alternate plan due to your unavailability on those dates. The first quarter conference is mandatory to enable you to meet your child’s homeroom teacher, ask questions, discuss progress, and establish a rapport for the school year.

Please be on time. Call the office (412-441-1582) to alert the teacher to any changes.

School Pictures

If you’ve already ordered pictures, you should receive them by November 22nd. Picture Retake Day is scheduled for Thursday, December 2nd — more information will be sent home after Thanksgiving. Yearbook order forms will be sent home later in the school year.

Outstanding Forms

Daily Dismissal Plans and Parent Lunch Duty forms are outstanding for several families. These are important for the efficient daily operation of the school. You will be contacted ONLY if your form is outstanding at the school office.

School Tours

Tours of the school are being conducted for families interested in enrolling a child in grades PreK through Grade 8. If you know anyone interested in touring the school, have them call the school office to set up a date (412-441-1582).

Recycling for Funds

Printer cartridge and cell phone recycling earns money for Sacred Heart School. Deposit your used printer cartridges and cell phones in the box at the school entrance. Join us to help the environment as we earn cash for trash.

All Sacred Heart students will participate in the traditional Veterans Day observance on Tuesday, November 9th, weather permitting.

Unlike years past when we all gathered for this solemn observance in the gymnasium, we will gather on Emerson St. at 10:30 am and conduct a modified ceremony. Middle School students will participate in singing, playing in the band, and narrating the program.

Students are invited to bring a photo of their relatives who are veterans to the service. The children will be invited to hold up the photo while the song “Thank You, Soldiers” is sung. Teaching students the importance of honoring veterans and all service men and women instills in them gratitude, compassion, commitment, honor and courage that are foundations of a Christ-like life.

Because of COVID restrictions, it won’t be possible for parents to attend this event. We look forward to a more inclusive ceremony in November, 2022.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Soup Collection

A team of eighth grade students comprised of Alessandro Rambaldi, Claire Gerencir, Ben Hunt and A’darius Brown has organized a Soup Collection to help support our neighbors at the East End Cooperative Ministry. They are asking students in Kindergarten through 4th Grade to bring in canned items between November 15th–23rd. The team will be visiting classrooms and explaining to the younger students how important it is to give back. The older grades will have an opportunity to participate in the future.

Month of November /

Memorial Service

During the month of November, the Church prays for the deceased members of our families, friends, and others who are in need of prayer. Students in grades one through eight will participate in a Prayer Service on November 16th and 17th (small groupings) in church for this beautiful prayer experience.

Weekly Skills Skate Program at the Hunt Armory

All families interested in this program should fill out the following survey by November 4th.

Complete Google Form

This will be a grade/middle school weekly skills skate on Wednesdays (3:30 – 4:20pm) from December 1, 2021 through February 28, 2022. The fee will be between $10 and $20 per session.

On-ice instruction will be led by Tyler Kennedy, Jaden Lindo, and other Penguins staffers. Once we receive responses from interested parents, Instructors will finalize curriculum and practice plans.

Basketball: Developmental Skills & Drills

The SHES Developmental Basketball Program is a treat for students and parents alike.

Enjoy Saturday mornings in March at Sacred Heart Elementary School gym watching emerging athletes in grades Kindergarten, 1 and 2 participate in drills that introduce them to the great game of basketball. This program is a long standing SHES tradition, run by volunteer parents.

The program starts on March 5, 2022 and meets for six Saturday morning sessions.

Farewell from Mrs. Rodgers

Dear Sacred Heart Families,

The time has come to bid you all a fond farewell.

My nearly thirty year career as a secretary at Sacred Heart comes to an end on November 15, 2021. I have been privileged to serve many wonderful children and parents at Sacred Heart over the years, making friends, and collecting happy memories along the way. I happened into this position when my daughter was in third grade here, and my son in first. A long time ago.

I have had the honor of working alongside the dedicated Sisters of Charity for many years which has been a joy. I have learned so much from so many and wish all of our families an equally enriching experience. Sacred Heart School is a special place, and it will always feel like home to me.

With affection,

Judy Rodgers
