Delaware Artist Highlight
We are pleased to share that Harold Kalmus, a previous 2021 Individual Artist Fellow from Arden, DE will be exhibiting at the 46th annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show November 11-13, 2022.
Kalmus still works actively as a sculptor, dividing his studio time between the two artistic worlds. He has taught sculpture at Delaware College of Art and Design and has a January 2022 exhibition scheduled in Philadelphia. His knives were featured in the 2019 Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, one of the country’s most prestigious juried shows, and in early 2020 he was gratified to be accepted into several other major shows. But the pandemic cancelled them all, and so marketing his work continues to be challenging.

Aaron Terry
Established, Visual Arts: Works on Paper
| |
Printmaker, professor, and musician Aaron Terry has “always been a visual artist.” The world around him and its intersection with world events have both had a profound effect on his life, his work, and his extensive travels. Terry and his three siblings were raised in upstate New York in a house (without electricity or running water) that his parents built. When he was seven, the family moved to Philadelphia, where his “incredible teachers impressed the importance of art and culture.” His earliest visual influences ranged widely from “the codices of pre-Colombian Mexico (Codex Borgia and Codex Nuttall) [to] the artwork of Star Wars.”

Leanna Thongvong
Emerging, Folk Art: Visual Arts
| |
Leanna Thongvong is passionate about her art and proud of the resilient community it reflects. Her family’s American story began in the 1970s and 1980s, when “our Lao/Khmer community fled war and genocide” and came to the United States. Some traditions have changed from those of previous generations – “our narrative is forever evolving” – but Thongvong’s work pays tribute to her deep cultural roots. “The use of gold jewelry, warm reds and oranges, and deep brown skin tones are representative of myself, my family, and my people.”
