The final weeks of the fall term include more than a dozen art appreciation classes.
|
|
Travel back to the Renaissance for the final three classes in Page Knox's Masterpieces of Western Art series that meets on Wednesdays from 11 am to 12 pm over Zoom. Raphael in the Vatican (11331) is on November 16, 2022; Michelangelo, Sculptor from Florence (11332) meets on November 30, 2022; and the finale, Michelangelo's Later Work in Rome (11333), meets on December 14, 2022. The companion class, Walking Tour: Renaissance Paintings Gallery at the Met (11336), meets on Friday, December 9, 2022.
This week, on Thursday, November 17, 2022, Page Knox will be taking students through the Met's current exhibit, The Tudors: Art and Majesty in Renaissance England (11555). The tour is full but interested students should add their name to the wait list to be notified if we are able to open another section at a future date. Jill Kiefer is also focusing on Renaissance artwork in her class on Sandro Botticelli's Widespread Influence (11322) on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 11 am to 12 pm.
For fans of contemporary art, Ronnit Vasserman will be leading students on a virtual tour of the Venice Biennale 2022 (11365) on Monday, November 14, 2022, from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Save on air fare and skip the lines to view the curated international exhibit themed the Milk of Dreams. Tour two current exhibits, Magical Thinking and Street Visions at the Heller Museum (11537) on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 11 am, or stay home and take the armchair tour of Contemporary Galleries of New York City (11403) on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, from 1 to 2 pm.

Modern art is on display in Sophie Taueber-Arp (11402) with Riva Blumenfeld on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, from 1 to 2 pm, and Claude Monet and Modernism (11323) with Jill Kiefer on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 11 am to 12 pm. Kiefer returns the following Friday, December 9, 2022, to delve into German Expressionism in Franz Marc's Symbolic Abstraction (11324). Ginny Poleman will focus on the most famous and prolific muralist of the twentieth century on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 11 am to 12 pm in New York City’s Magnificent Art Deco Mosaics of Hildreth Meière (11346).
Jeffrey Mishur offers two more classes in 2022. The first, William and Jane Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement (11464) on Monday, November 14, 2022, from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm, explores the paintings, furniture, stained glass, textiles, and decorative arts that this husband and wife team and their colleagues created. Mishur fittingly ends the year with Norman Rockwell's Winter Holidays (11465) on Monday, December 5, 2022, from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm. The quintessential American artist applied his unique sense of humor and mastery of storytelling to Christmas, New Year’s, and other seasonal subjects. This illustrated lecture of curated winter-themed paintings is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.
