Have you settled into the cooler months? I love the fall weather and feel energized from the shift in seasons. October was another busy month for me and Adoption Mosaic. In addition to our monthly We the Experts: Adoptee Speaker Series: Late Discovery Adoptees, I hosted an in-person Adoptee Pizza Party (hopefully this will be a regular scheduled event), we our launched Conscious Adoption:Transracial Parenting adoptive parent course, and we hosted our first annual Community Connection Event. Thank you to everyone who attended, shared, listened, and supported each other. Our community is AMAZING!
The month of November is designated as National Adoption Awareness Month (NAAM) and Native American Heritage month. This month I will hold space for the complexities of these two designations. I think it is important for us all to work to understand the evolution of how this month has been historically represented and recognized, in addition to turning a critical and thoughtful lens on the intersection of adoption and our Native American communities. To me, it is important to understand how history has impacted and contributed to the intentions and nuances of celebrations so that we can be educated voices seeking change as we continue to evolve.
I hope to see you at our two We the Experts panel discussions: Adoptees as Adoption Professionals will explore our panelists’ experience as adoptees within the adoption industry. Non-Adopted Siblings of Adoptees (Ally series) will feature individuals who grew up within their biological family and had the experience of having adopted siblings.
As always, we could not continue to evolve and grow Adoption Mosaic without your support and participation, thank you!
