BOSTON SQUARE TOGETHER: Construction Update

Initially, neighbors came together in July 2019 to speak into the collective community design process and we are excited to say we are moving right along!

Since then, Amplify GR staff and partner organizations have been making significant strides behind the scenes to bring the best possible versions of the neighbor-voiced priorities to life in Boston Square. Construction started this year with Kzoo Station, an incubator kitchen and eatery. It will ramp up next year with several new projects bringing state-of-the-art, holistic community spaces that neighbors have wanted to see in Boston Square for decades.

Kzoo Station is the first project to be completed (October 2022) in the Boston Square Together plan. Named by neighbors, this incubator kitchen is for growing and budding food businesses with technical assistance through the programming partner, SpringGR.

Neighbors can also order from some of their favorite local businesses and pick it up at Kzoo Station. An inside eatery will be available in the future.

The interior demo will begin soon at 1534 Kalamazoo Ave. (the old Revolution Church building) for the Boston Square Community Hub.

This space was designed with neighbor feedback and input over the last three years to respond to some of the highest community-voiced priorities captured: early childhood education, rentable community gathering spaces, a health and wellness clinic, and more. LEARN MORE

AGR staff will visit Salt City Market (left) in NY to get inspiration for Boston Square.

This housing project is NOT your typical "apartments above and retail space below." As some of the hardest working spaces in the project, the "F2 and F3" buildings were designed in collaboration with neighbors to bring apartments with a focus on affordability for current neighbors, a rooftop deck, a food hall that will be focused on building upon the community's diverse food culture and other great amenities unique to Boston Square.

The AGR team is researching the best food halls in the country (like this one) that focus on building community and highlighting neighbor entrepreneurs. As with all BSQT projects and AGR's work, research is combined with an engagement process that is done together with neighbors to create a unique pathway of doing development differently - a process that authentically uplifts community.
