Nov., 1, 2023

We hold such grief and pain in witnessing to the conflict in the middle east and the impacts of terrible violence on so many in our own communities and around the world. In these times, we know there is great need to be together in prayer, in community, in conversations of healing and truth-telling, of hope and action.

NM IPL's Annual Gathering celebration this year focused on "healing relationships in our sacred world." The panel discussion and offerings throughout the evening that unfolded from this theme were rich with insight, wisdom, and inspiration. You can view videos of the panel, music, NM IPL presentation, and awards here.

In this spirit of healing, we go forth into this threshold time of seasons changing and looking ahead to the turning of the year, offering to you words from our closing blessing:

"Bless us most especially to be people who are healers - people building with our words and our hands a world that is known by no other name than sacred. May it be so."

Wed, Nov, 8, 3:00 pm MT Webinar: "Are There Really Pennies from Heaven?" How to Get Federal Money for Your Congregation's Solar Project & More

Led by Hayley Hathaway and joined by Tiffany Hartung, national Interfaith Power and Light's Chief Strategy Officer. The Inflation Reduction Act’s new rules are making it possible for houses of worship and other non-profits to benefit from tax credits for renewable energy. You read that right—even organizations that don't pay taxes can get money from the federal government now. Thanks to the IRA, your congregation can get a 30%+ (called “elective pay” or “direct pay”) for solar panel installation and for a few other renewable energy efforts. Join our webinar to learn how this works and get your questions answered. We’ll also be sharing updates about the Department of Energy’s Renew America's Nonprofit grant for energy efficiency. Register here.

Very important to have in-person, virtual and written support for these standards. See highlighted section above for more details.

Urgent ABQ request for action: The Albuquerque City Council is seeking to fire the Albuquerque Bernalillo Air Quality Board and give the council veto power over all future decisions from the board. The ABAQ Board is made up of experts that monitor and improve Albuquerque's air quality. NM IPL and others are working to keep the current board in place. If you are from Albuquerque, please tell your city councilors: vote no on Resolution O-88 and Resolution R-176. These resolutions are a power grab and are in large part a response of backlash from oil and gas interests to the clean vehicle standards and the Albuquerque Bernalillo Air Quality Board's role in the upcoming clean vehicle hearings. Now and in the future, we need the decision-making power of qualified experts to protect our air quality. Email Clara Sims at clara@nm-ipl.org if you want further guidance.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is proposing new federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for vehicles sold in 2027 and beyond. There is still time to submit public comment -- click here to send a comment in support of stronger fuel economy rules.
