Conspirare's Music Echoes Near and Far
While Conspirare is known for creating transformative musical experiences like concerts and recordings, these offerings can only reach so far. Key to Conspirare's vision of being a 21st Century Choir is ensuring that the music we commission and our repertoire are known and performed by musicians and heard by audiences everywhere, not just today but in the future. Two recent opportunities illustrate this aspect of Conspirare's work.
Even with YouTube and music streaming services, the way to ensure that music is known and performed is to publish it. Craig recently signed with EC Schirmer to create a new series featuring new music he has written or cultivated. The first publication in The Craig Hella Johnson Series will be Alex Berko's Sacred Place.
"Over the years, Craig Hella Johnson's contributions to the field of choral music have been exceptional," says Kenney Potter, editor at ECS Publishing Group, a leading publisher of classical and choral music. "This new series will produce inspiring works that will open hearts and minds among choirs and audiences." Craig has another series published by Hal Leonard.
On the local front, recently Craig taught as part of the Austin Symphony's "Connecting with Music" series for local high school students. Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the program's theme is "Musical Resilience: Overcoming Adversity." Craig connected with the students around his work as a composer and conductor. He encouraged everyone to “bring creativity into your life no matter what you are doing.”
