State Appropriation Funding
At the October 5th Regular Council Meeting, Ian Nolan, from Senator Mayfield's office, presented a check for funding appropriations from the State Legislative Session in 2023-2024 in the amount of $5M.
Here is the breakdown:
Septic to sewer conversions ($2,100,000): This will fund approximately 50 percent of the cost to connect for approximately 200 households that are on septic tanks but have sewer lines available in front of their homes. The remaining 50 percent is shared by the City in waiver of fees and the household’s cost-share of $5,000.
Gun range improvements for the Police Department ($1,250,000): Includes a new multi-purpose training facility, comprised of classrooms/training rooms utilized not just by Palm Bay Police Department and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, but also by state and federal law enforcement agencies. Also includes a K9 training area and repair and repainting of the range rappel tower.
St. Johns Heritage Parkway ($1,500,000): Partial funding of the design and engineering for the widening of St. Johns Heritage Parkway between City limits and Malabar Road.
Sacrifice Park ($150,000): Funding for improvements to the memorial at Sacrifice Park honoring public safety first responder personnel across Brevard County killed in the line of duty.
