GIVING TUESDAY CAMPAIGN: ONLY ONE WEEK AWAY

We would like to start this month's newsletter by first giving a big thank you to everybody who took part in our community survey, as well as all our very gracious donors who have already contributed to our GivingTuesday campaign. With that being said, we are still very far from our goal.

During this GivingTuesday, if you can consider donating to keep us moving forward with our mission to promote inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility, we would be so grateful. Every little bit helps.

Thank you so much for your support!

Your support will make a difference! A donation to Langley Pos-Abilities Society not only helps us maintain our current programs but also expands our reach, ultimately transforming more lives in the Fraser Valley. Each donation is put towards our fundraising for mobility aids and accessibility devices for those with disabilities in the lower mainland. Personal assistive devices are not just a preference - they are a need. Donations give the people the devices, aids, and assistance that they need and deserve, as well as funding for our programs like accessibility maps and educational experiences.

URGENTLY NEEDED: MANUAL WHEELCHAIRS & WALKERS

We have a waitlist and need donations. These pieces of equipment are absolutely essential for many living with a disability. Let's help make life more accessible for members in our community who need these items. If you are able to donate, know someone else who can, or can spread the word about this area of need we would greatly appreciate it.

Please CLICK HERE for the donation form, or contact us directly at 604 - 961 - 0117.

Personal Assistive Devices Program

Through our P.A.D. Program, it is possible to request a personal assistive piece of equipment. If you would like to browse available equipment, please visit our catalog. Please note that this is in the process of being updated with photos and availability, so please call for confirmation until then, at: 604-961-0117.

Information about requesting or donating equipment can be found on our website.

Through this program, we aim to provide disability-awareness education.

TOAD Program

We have developed several programs which promote understanding of and increase empathy towards persons with disabilities.

Ideal as team-building exercises, employee or management retreats, school educational experiences, seminars, in-services, or lunch and learn events, these activities are fun, interactive and eye-opening.

PUSH FOR ACCESSIBILITY: MAPPING PROJECT

Langley Pos-Abilities is engaged in a Mapping Program. The purpose is to enable access to public buildings for anyone who might have challenges, such as seniors, mothers with strollers, and people with disabilities. Disabilities include mobility issues, hearing loss, blindness, and many other conditions requiring assistive devices.

This can be easily accessed on any device (laptop, phone, iPad). We are encouraging all members of our community to take time and review different locations you go to in terms of 3 main accessibility features: mobility, vision, and hearing.

Accessing this map has never been easier! Either click the link below, or type "accessibilitymap.ca" in any web-based browser.

Accessible or Not?

Watch this video to learn about how important it is for people in wheelchairs and scooters to have proper accessible parking. Lack of proper parking in the right location can put them at risk or restricts access to their vehicle. Accessible parking isn't about convenience, it's a requirement.

Langley Pos-Abilities Society is grateful to have collaborated with SPARC BC on this project.

Accessibility Audit Program

Langley Pos-Abilities will assess your workplace accessibility, offer you a detailed report, and if needed, suggest ideas to improve your score. There are many low-cost or cost-free ways you can make your workplace a welcoming environment for people with disabilities.

Contact us today to receive an audit and assistance in making your facility more accessible for all.
