Upcoming Events & Opportunities

We're excited to share some upcoming events and opportunities at Nonprofit Staten Island and across our membership!

Here are the latest opportunities to strengthen and connect with the community.

The Human Services Council and seven of its coalition partners have launched an email campaign opposing the “Program to Eliminate the Gap” announced by the Mayor.

Mayor Adams proposed a 15% budget cut across all City agencies, which will result in harmful cuts to human services. Any "PEGS" on human services programs will have impacts now, as providers may be forced to close programs or reduce services. They will certainly have impacts in the years to come as less services will be available.

If you/your organization wants to add voice to the opposition of 15% across-the-board budget cuts, you can click here to join the effort & send your email using the HSC template.

The Canvas Institute is hosting the 2nd Annual Youth Empowerment Gala at the Staaten on Wednesday November 29 from 7pm - 11pm.  This event allows the Canvas Institute to support the most vulnerable students and underfunded schools with much needed programs and service. Attached is a PDF with all the details!

Hey, Staten Island!  The Queens & Staten Island Clean Energy Hub is surveying residents, with the help of the Pratt Center for Community Development, to better understand your knowledge, interests, and experiences related to clean energy. Your responses to this 10-minute survey will help our Clean Energy Hub and its local stakeholders connect more Staten Islanders to career opportunities and low/no-cost home upgrades.

We invite any resident to complete the survey! Youth, young adults, clients, staff members, older adults, regardless of whether they rent or own their residence, are eligible.

The English version of the survey can be accessed at tinyurl.com/cleanenergyhubsurvey.

The Spanish version of the survey can be accessed at tinyurl.com/encuestadeenergialimpia

All respondents will be entered to win a $100 gift card!

Grant Opportunities:

ATTENTION Cultural institutions: There is a grant opportunity through the Public Humanities Projects program! This initiative supports projects that bring humanities ideas to life for diverse audiences via engaging public programming. Emphasizing engagement with humanities scholarship, projects explore significant themes in history, literature, ethics, and art history.

Awards are designed to reach broad and diverse public audiences in non-classroom settings across the United States. The program supports projects in three categories—Exhibitions, Historic Places, and Humanities Discussions—offering funding at two levels: Planning and Implementation. Consider integrating complementary components, like a museum exhibition accompanied by a website or mobile app.

Project topics can be international, national, regional, or local in focus. Local projects should connect to broader themes or historical questions of regional or national relevance. If your project doesn't address wider regional or national concerns, explore local funding sources, such as state humanities councils.

Award amounts vary based on the project’s scope and expected audiences, with a special encouragement for small and mid-sized organizations to apply. Tailor your humanities project for specific groups, including families, youth (K-12 students in informal educational settings), underserved communities, and veterans.
