Join BEC and Green Campus to GREEN Chico State!
We are hosting a Habitat Restoration at Chico State on Friday, November 3rd from 9-12pm near Alumni Glenn. Come join BEC and Green Campus to GREEN campus.
During this event, we will be planting native species and no experience is required, so come on down between classes or on your day off to spend some time in nature. It's an event you don't want to miss!

Duck for Dinner on Nov. 11th
Butte County Local Food Network and Butte Environmental Council are hosting a fabulous, six-course Duck Dinner put together with "love and magic" by Chef Alex Cilensek and Donna Garrison.
We hope you grabbed your tickets because they are nearly sold out! If you missed your chance to grab them, but still want to participate and try some delectable duck, we need volunteers.
Volunteer shifts:
- Set Up Dining Room Friday, November 10, 2:00-6:00
- Servers 4:00 to 8:00 - Serving guests and clearing plates
- Dishwashers 5:00 - 10:00 (Automatic Dishwasher)
- Clean up 8:00 - 10:00 Clear tables and linens. Help dishwashers
- Kitchen prepping Friday, November 10, 1:00-5:00
- Kitchen cooking and plating meals 2:00 - 7:00

Community Climate Action Day - Thank you for participating!
On Oct. 21 BEC, with the help of other organizations, hosted the Community Climate Action Day.
With the help of 160 volunteers we built 15 bird boxes and four “Free the Food Stands,” planted nine trees and removed over 40 yards of invasive species, mostly Himalayan blackberries.

The “Free the Food Stands'' will be placed in front of neighborhood homes to provide the community with access to free food. The bird boxes will be placed in burn scars to help regenerate the forest, provide habitat for birds and bring other wildlife back to these areas. Removing invasive species in the park provides native vegetation with more access to natural resources and provides a healthier growing environment. Lastly, the new trees at Everheart Village will create a prettier landscape, and provide more shade and habitat for wildlife while also creating healthier living conditions for residents.
The impact of Climate Action Day is immeasurable and will provide many benefits to a diverse range of people and ecosystems for many years to come.
Thank you to all of our partners like Butte Fire Safe Council, The City of Chico, Butte County Local Food Network, Altacal, California Volunteers, and California Climate Action Corps for helping to make our Climate Action Day a success! Plus Tacos El Limon, Tahoe Pure Bottled Water, and Wolfthump for their participation in our Volunteer thank you lunch. We hope to see everyone at our next volunteer event!

Tree Planting Event
Join Butte Environmental Council in Tehama County on December 13th!
In partnership with the City of Corning Parks and Recreation, we will be planting 14 trees at three public parks. This includes Yost Park, the soccer field and skatepark.
Mark your calendars and get ready to plant a tree with BEC this December. Our planting will kick off at the skatepark (1485 Toomes Ave, Corning)! For more info head HERE.

Pumpkins: Good for smashing and composting
Join the Butte County Local Food Network in smashing pumpkins into compost! Attendees will not only be helping compost, but will have fun doing other activities like swapping sweets and pummeling pumpkins. Bring your Jack-O-Lanterns and pumpkins, leftover sweets and any extra produce you have for Free the Food stands. Come in your Halloween costume to show it off one last time.
The smashing will be from 11am until 2pm at Vecino Garden on Nov. 5. The entrance is located in the alley between 5th & 6th Ave and Laburnum & Oleander.

What's growing on?
Butte Environmental Council is mixing things up in our community garden with our brand new weekly volunteer event, Monday Mixers!
Every Monday from 5pm-6pm, we're inviting volunteers to come down to 1500 W 8th Ave at our Oak Way Community Garden to learn all things compost! Join us in a variety of activities including building garden boxes, discovering the science behind composting from in our community, turning compost and more.

The Tuscan Aquifer needs your help!
On Dec. 5, a landowner vote will be held regarding the creation of the Tuscan Aquifer District. In preparation for the vote, Groundwater for Butte will begin mailing ballots out on Nov. 7, urging recipients to vote NO on the measure. Votes are weighed by the value of acres owned, meaning the votes of larger farms and corporations have more worth. In order for the Tuscan Water District to be defeated, a majority of small-property owners need to vote NO.
Ground Water for Butte is holding two information panels on the threats posed by the Tuscan Water District on Nov. 2, at the Masonic Family Center, 1110 W East Ave, from 7-8:30 pm and on Nov. 7 at the Durham Veterans’ Memorial Hall, 9319 Midway, from 7-8:30 pm. Don't Fall for Sprawl!
This benefit show hosted by Smart Growth Advocates, held for Stop Valley’s Edge, will have performances from local musicians Aubrey Debauchery, Black Fong and Dylan’s Dharma. Funds from the event will go toward highlighting the March 5 referendum in Chico to Stop Valley’s Edge.
So come on down, enjoy some live music and contribute to stopping valley’s edge at Chico Women's Club.
The show is from 6pm-9pm on Sunday, Nov. 5, at Chico Woman’s Club on 592 E 3rd Street, and tickets can be purchased for $20. If you can’t make the show, you can donate to the cause HERE.
