Traditions & Warm Hospitality Since 1892

Keith Armstrong

Chief Operating Officer

With the arrival of Fall, GCC becomes a hive of activity. The tennis bubble goes up, the Autumn Member-Guest event has been played, the Skeet season kicks off, and Clubhouse events move indoors. We hope quality time spent with family and friends at GCC can offer some reprieve and contentment in these tumultuous times.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I reflect on all I'm thankful for this year and hold on to hope for a peaceful future. I'm grateful for the partnership, volunteerism, and thoughtful investments in our future that our members bring forth to help us govern purposefully and continue to grow.

I'm also grateful for our team's hard work and dedication to serving our membership and making GCC what it is today. Every single team member brings something uniquely different to the table, elevating GCC to new heights and making it a true home away from home.

I wish everyone many bright moments filled with peace, abundance, and joy this season.

I look forward to seeing you at the Club soon!

Interns

Intern Hospitality Program at GCC

GCC interns play a crucial role in ensuring that members and guests receive the highest quality service throughout their dining experience. As they hone their skills and gain familiarity, they also provide valuable insights into optimizing productivity and improving processes related to food and beverage services.

GCC interns receive training under the Director of Restaurants, Jerome Olivieri, and his team. The training includes a comprehensive orientation and review of all dining venue spaces and floor plans. It also covers many different elements of service such as runner set-up/breakdown, managing ticket orders, table and station set-up, service process, taking orders, menu knowledge, allergens capture, recommendations/specials, food temperature, wine knowledge, classic cocktail-making and knowledge, drink order terminology, and event set-up/breakdown.

To ensure every member receives personalized service, weekly intern meetings include specific training sessions to work towards the goal of member recognition (using member photos) and member preferences. This helps the interns consistently identify members and understand individual preferences to provide a uniquely tailored member experience. If you haven’t already uploaded your photo to the GCC app, please consider doing so to aid in recognition amongst interns and staff.

GCC Team Member Spotlight

ANGELO CHAVEZ

Director of Play

What do GCC team members say about Angelo?

Funny, warm, quick, and always willing to lend a hand and help the team perform at their best. Angelo always has a smile on his face, a kind word and a positive attitude.

Born: Port Chester, NY

Resides: Danbury, CT

Department: Golf

How long have you worked at GCC?

Twenty years. I manage the caddie training program that starts in April and ends in mid-May.

What does your department do to enhance and improve the member experience?

We do whatever it takes to provide an exceptional experience at GCC. Our commitment to our members is unwavering. From entertaining guests when the member is running late to retrieving lost phones, sunglasses, clothing, and headcovers, we go above and beyond to ensure our members are excited to be here. The most popular request is delivering adult beverages to members on the course, and we are happy to oblige. Our team is highly attentive to detail, anticipates problems, and pivots to adjust accordingly and ensure a seamless experience for our members.

What is your biggest accomplishment to date?

Despite three inches of rain on the morning of the 2022 Global Lyme Alliance, I was able to find 25 extra caddies in just two hours to ensure a seamless golf outing despite the walking-only format. With some quick thinking and resourcefulness, we were able to make sure the event went off without a hitch.

What is your favorite part of working at GCC?

It's been a fantastic experience working at GCC for twenty long years. What I love the most about my job here is the opportunity to interact and talk to all the members and guests. Over the years, I have built great connections with many of them, and it feels like I have a second family here.

Outside of GCC, what do you love to do?

I love spending time with my grandchildren Alessia, 4, and Asher, 2. I also enjoy training my 3-year-old German Shepherd, Hans. I like

working out, working around the house, and

traveling.

Favorite sports team?

NY Jets!

Founded in 1892, the Greenwich Country Club is a family-oriented, year-round club providing Members and Guests with outstanding facilities and exceptional service, through valued employees, in a welcoming and gracious environment. We strive to be our Members’ preferred choice for athletics, dining, and entertainment by offering diverse activities in a positive social atmosphere. We are committed to serving the evolving needs of our Membership, incorporating contemporary amenities and policies while remaining true to our heritage and traditions.
