November is the month we traditionally associate with Thanksgiving. We are grateful for all the blessings which come from God’s hands.
However, I also associate this month with All Saint’s weekend. I think of the saints in my life who have been so important: family members, mentors, friends, and fellow church members. Saints are not perfect people, just people who understand they are forgiven.
Martin Luther said, “We are one and the same time sinners and justified by grace as saints,” (simul Justus et peccator). Thanks be to God that, in our tradition, saints are not approved by the church hierarchy, nor have to be proven by miracles or good works, but that we live as saints in God’s grace all the time!
May your month of November be blessed with joyous reunions, family time, Thanksgiving blessings, and also the gift of all the Saints of God!
In Christ,
Pastor Jeff Ruby, Lead Pastor
