The Problem:
All the heavy rain over the last year has been catastrophic to our roads and drainage systems. On December 20, 2023, after one of our major rain events, a CTDOT crew was out on SR 603 in Andover and noticed the edge of the road was failing. After further inspection of the culvert that conveys Bishop Brook, it was determined that the 48” pipes were failing at the joints. The excessive rainfall caused the brook to rise, and debris clogged the pipe causing water to go over the road. The water scoured around causing erosion to the roadway and undermining the pipes. Luckily, the CTDOT responded quickly.
