Dear RBUSD Students and Families,

As we enter this season of gratitude, it is a great time to reflect deeply on the many individuals and school partners that make our community extraordinary. There is something transformative about genuine appreciation – it changes not just how we see our world, but how we move through it and connect with those around us.

November provides us the perfect opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation for every member of our RBUSD family: our bright and resilient students from pre-K through adult education, our dedicated school board, our passionate faculty, our tireless staff, our inspiring admin team, our engaged parents and guardians, and our committed community partners. Your unwavering support and enthusiastic volunteerism enrich our campuses, events, and school community, making RBUSD truly exceptional.

Grateful for Our Teachers & Staff

Our teachers and staff inspire us daily with their unwavering dedication and collaborative spirit. Their positive energy and persistence, even during challenging moments, exemplify the very best of our district's values. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to excellence in service to our students. Hands down, RBUSD staff are #1!

Appreciating Our Community Partners

Our vibrant school community thrives thanks to the exceptional support of our PTAs, the Redondo Beach Education Foundation (RBEF), and countless parent volunteers. Through innovative programs - from the eBike initiative to our multicultural celebrations - they help create an inclusive, and enriching environment where all students can flourish.

Support for Student Well-Being

Our partnership with Beach Cities Health District continues to make a profound impact on our students' mental and physical well-being. We are grateful for their support to our students, staff, and school community. It is because of BCHD that our students have access to top notch resources and mental health experts.

Thank You for Supporting the Skechers Walk, RBEF, & Friendship Foundation!

We also extend our gratitude to RBEF and the Friendship Foundation for their generous support of RBUSD schools. RBUSD had a great turn out for this year’s Skechers Walk on October 27. The proceeds from your signups benefit school-specific projects, including campus beautification, choir risers, playground equipment, signage, mindfulness spaces, and more. Thank you, Team RBUSD!

Ensuring Safety in Our Schools

Student safety remains our highest priority, and we're deeply grateful to the Redondo Beach Police and Fire Departments for their vigilant partnership in protecting our schools.

We also thank the City of Redondo Beach, our City Manager, Mayor, and City Council Members for providing crossing guards who ensure our students' safe travels to and from campus each day.

A few requests from our amazing Crossing Guards: 1) Come to a complete stop behind the crosswalk line, 2) Please do not inch forward until the Crossing Guard has exited the street completely, and 3) Please use your signal when making a turn.

Students Say it Best

At my recent Superintendent Student Advisory Group (S.A.C.) meeting on October 16th, I asked students to share what they're thankful for, and they offered ideas on how we can keep improving our community. We're excited to keep spotlighting their voices in future communications.

When I think about my teachers and the staff, I am most thankful for:

  • “The hospitality, kindness, and authenticity that is reflected across all fields of staff at RBUSD. No matter where I'm in the cafeteria, classroom, or even in the football locker room chatting with our custodian…, I am always treated with respect and kindness and I don't take it for granted! The community that I feel as a part of this school district is real and it is something that I am extremely grateful for.”
  • “PE coaches that encourage us to eat healthy food and be kind and custodians who care to learn our names and give us funny nicknames.”
  • “How most are able to listen in times of need and when someone just wants to talk.”
  • “I am most thankful for the time and effort they put into making sure we have the best education and learning environment possible, allowing us to strive and achieve our goals!”

When reflecting on my overall experience attending school in Redondo, I feel most thankful for:

  • "The staff and security guards keeping our campus clean and safe. They are always looking out for us and taking care of the campus for our safety and well-being.”
  • “The teachers who care about YOU and your thoughts and feelings not just teaching you.”
  • “How my friends are always there for me. Whether it's something about a grade or just a simple mistake I made, they are there.”
  • “The numerous opportunities and programs this district provides such as ASB and Lego League, as well as various leadership opportunities like the S.A.C.”

Other expressions of gratitude our students shared:

  • “School spirit is really strong at RUHS— and in the district in general.”
  • “I am so grateful for all the hard work put in to make sure the students are put first and I hope all the staff know that their work does not go unnoticed and is appreciated by every student on campus.”
  • “I am grateful for the other activities in school like going to sports games or Renaissance day, Greek day and Civil War day.”
  • “I am grateful for our beautiful campus and all its facilities.”

Thank you for your unwavering support and involvement in our schools. Together, we are building a brighter future for our students.

Warm regards,

Your Superintendent,

Dr. Nikki Wesley, Ed.D.
