Recently added to the catalog are several food-inspired courses in December, all open for registration.

Now in the schedule are two culinary walking tours and a cooking lesson, all with Renee Cohen. Culinary Walking Tour: Multi-Ethnic Cuisine of Astoria (12913) meets Wednesday, December 4, 2024, and will indulge your taste buds with Greek, Middle Eastern, and a variety of Mediterranean treats in this diverse section of Queens.

On Thursday, December 12, 2024, Cohen returns to Chinatown by popular demand. Culinary Walking Tour: Chinatown (12912) explores Chinatown's history and secret wonders in this amazing neighborhood while you taste your way from one culinary delight to another.

On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, hone your hosting skills in Holiday Cooking with Renee Cohen (12918), where you will not only enjoy preparing and eating a fabulous meal but come away with a complete holiday menu to replicate for your own guests.

Two of New York's most famous culinary hosts are also on SAS's December bill of fare. First up is Book Discussion: Be Ready When the Luck Happens (2024) by Ina Garten (12920) on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, with Lori Rotskoff. Discuss the Barefoot Contessa's acclaimed new memoir, an intimate yet entertaining story suited for readers hungry for a seat at her bountiful table.

Just added this week is the latest class from Kate Hearst: Film Discussion: Martha (2024) (12959). Discuss Director R.J. Cutler's complex Netflix documentary about the enduring American icon Martha Stewart, the first female self-made billionaire. Called the “original influencer,” Martha calls herself a “homemaker” and a “modern feminist.” Are these contradictory labels? Watch the movie on your own and convene with fellow students to analyze how this documentary shapes our understanding of Martha Stewart and the revolution she ignited.

Last reminder before Thanksgiving:

If you, your friends, and your family have not already registered, don't miss your chance to gather next month and meet the world's most famous weatherman, Al Roker. He and his daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, will be discussing their new family cookbook, Al Roker's Recipes to Live By in conversation with Joy Bauer, MS, RDN, CDN, one of the nation’s leading health authorities and a nutrition and healthy lifestyle contributor for NBC’s Today show.

Rejoice in and relate to the Roker family rituals while thumbing through the Roker family recipe box. Roker's amusing anecdotes explain why he writes that "Food is the narrative that has shaped so much of who I am, and it’s the source of my warmest memories."

Please note: Registration includes a copy of the cookbook.

Recipes to Live By: An Evening with Al Roker and Courtney Roker Laga in Conversation with Joy Bauer (Course 12819) will take place on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 7:00pm-8:30pm at the conveniently located Temple Israel of New Rochelle at 1000 Pinebrook Boulevard, with ample parking.
