USF alum Nels Matson completed a cross-country run honoring U.S. veterans. The ultrarunner finished the 3,063-mile mission in record time, clocking in as the third- fastest transcontinental run in history at 46 days, 17 hours and 26 minutes.

Student spotlight: Josh Streitmatter took his real estate brokerage mentorship full circle. He accompanied Bill Eshenbaugh back to the same real estate class where they first met — sharing what he's learned as an intern at Eshenbaugh Land Company.

The 'bias machine': How Google tells you what you want to hear. Varol Kayhan, an associate professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, was featured in a BBC story about how search engines affect confirmation bias.

Brooke Hansen, an associate professor of instruction in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, begins her three-year tenure as a Fulbright Specialist in Serbia to create 3D models for tourism development.

The USF Supply Chain Innovation Lab is furthering the understanding of hurricane impacts by creating models to optimize supply chain management during hurricanes, especially for items like fuel and food.

Student spotlight: Deeya Patel. The 20-year-old is on track to graduate in fall 2024 with two bachelor's degrees. She turned coaching from the Bellini Center into an internship that led to a full-time job at a law firm.

USF's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management hosts Bull's Bistro, a series of culinary events where students put classroom knowledge into practice by preparing and serving a themed meal. Tickets.

USF's Bellini Center for Talent Development won a 2024 Tampa Bay Inno Award in the Supporter category for its impact on the local innovation community. The center focuses on cultivating student talent.

Sporting beach wear, tank tops and flip-flops, USF students took turns pitching surfboard sales in a run-up to the collegiate sales competition season at the Selling by the Bay event on the St. Petersburg campus.

Kaylee Eckelman, a master's student in AI and business analytics, is the lab manager at the Sarasota Cybersecurity lab. The lab empowers interdisciplinary research opportunities for USF undergraduates.

USF's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is ranked No. 28 in the world and No 12 in the U.S. in the Shanghai Ranking's 2024 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in hospitality and tourism management.

Nelson and Tiffany Perez met and fell in love at USF. The Perez family is the 2024 USF Family of the Year. Daughter Brianna is at the Muma College of Business studying management with a concentration in HR.

Alumni spotlight: Ashley Hansen

After years on the front lines as a nurse in the operating room, including a few during COVID-19, Ashley Marie Hansen was ready for a change. Learn how she went from RN to becoming an MBA graduate and a budding entrepreneur. Read more.

Faculty Spotlights

Greg Greenhalgh, an assistant professor in the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management program, received the 2024 Sutton Award from the Sport Marketing Association.

Seden Dogan, an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, received the Emerald Literati Outstanding Reviewer Award.

Denny Yin, an associate professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, received the 2023 ISR Best Paper Runner-Up Award.

Priya Dozier, an assistant professor of instruction at the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, presented at the USF AI+X Symposium.

Matthew Mullarkey, a professor of instruction in the School of Information Systems and Management, presented at the United Nations General Assembly Digital Health Symposium.

Shivendu Shivendu, an associate professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, was mentioned in 83 Degrees and the Tampa Bay Business Journal news stories about a one-mill increase.

Fred Power, a Professor Emeritus who taught finance and insurance, passed away on Oct. 13, 2024. Obituary.

Avijit Sengupta (‘21, PhD, Business Administration and Management) received the Best Social Impact Paper Award at the 2024 Conference on Information Systems and Technology for his paper in MIS Quarterly.

Nate Calvert (‘24, EMBA) was named to the Emerging Leaders Class of 2024 by the International Sanitary Supply Association.

Genine Daux (‘10, Marketing) is a senior manager for customer solutions at Pernod Ricard.

Cristienn Joudaane (‘11, MBA, International Business and Management) started a new position as vice president for program management advisory and execution COO at Citi.

Klenton Perry (‘15, BS, Finance) was promoted to director at Scotiabank.

Ryan Heckel (‘18, BS, Finance) is Lowe's new lead senior auditor.

Janene Culumber (‘17, DBA) is the new CEO of the central Florida region at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute.

Torrell Jackson (‘10, BA, Business Management) started a new position as vice president of operations at Daisy. He is a former USF Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 Award honoree.

A new USF study co-authored by A.J. Chauradia, an assistant professor of instruction, highlights how empowering rural women in India through microentrepreneurship leads to significant economic and social gains.

The research, recently published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, found that female microentrepreneurs show a 40.8% increase in customer engagement and a 64.1% rise in economic value delivered compared to male microentrepreneurs.
