I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. And I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Below is an update for Dallas ISD and District 1.
Dallas ISD Updates
Record Teacher Applications: During the board meeting, Superintendent Elizalde reported that Dallas ISD received a record number of teacher applications in nine of the last ten months. Congrats to the district team on their hard work attracting and retaining top talent to best serve our students.
Superlative Schools: Several Dallas ISD Schools are top-ranked in Texas, including elementary, middle, and high schools. Neighborhood schools in District 1 are growing and thriving. Check out your local school, and review Discover Dallas ISD to find the right path for you and your family.
College, Career, and Military Ready: A decade ago, less than 8% of Dallas ISD seniors earned an associate degree or bachelor’s degree within six years after graduation. Today, more than 11% of Dallas ISD graduates earn an associate degree BEFORE they graduate from high school. Dallas ISD has seen significant growth in students earning college-based (level 1 and 2) credentials, and now we have 69% of Early College pathway graduates earning an associates degree (60 credit hours) by graduation.
Dallas ISD Annual Comprehensive Financial Report: Dallas ISD’s comprehensive financial report is final for the 2023-2024 school year. Our audit showed no concerns, and we have received a ‘Superior’ rating from TEA on the FIRST Financial Rating. We finished last year with a fund balance (i.e. savings) of approximately $750 million. If we spend our full budget this year (including our projected one-year deficit of approximately $187 million), we will still be very financially strong with a starting fund balance next year above our target.
District 1 Updates

W.T. White Produces Lion King: The awesome students at W.T. White put on a magnificent performance of the Lion King. Congrats to the hard-working students and teachers who made magic happen.

TJ Alumna Wins Third Emmy: Congratulations to TJ alumna, Cynthia Izaguirre, on her third Emmy.

Withers Elementary Starting Construction: Withers is starting construction on renovations, including 10 new classrooms, a secure vestibule, and much more.

DeGolyer Building Dedicated: It was wonderful to participate in the dedication of DeGolyer’s new campus. It is stunning, and students will grow and thrive in that beautiful building for many years to come.

Jags Bring Home Silver Chess Medal: Congrats to these great scholars who brought home a silver medal at their recent chess competition.
