Opening Prayer
"O God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry. When I have work, help me to remember the jobless. When I have a home, help me to remember those who have no home at all. When I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer. And remembering, help me to destroy my complacency, bestir my compassion, and be concerned enough to help, by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted. Amen."

Intentional Acts of Kindness Week
Oct. 29–Nov. 5
In a climate often charged with political tension, Intentional Acts of Kindness Week (IAK Week) shifts the focus from negativity to positive and peaceful action. The initiative reminds us that we are neither helpless nor hopeless. By making deliberate efforts to be kind to one another, we can change the atmosphere around us and set the tone for a more compassionate society.
How to Get Involved
We encourage members of Province V and beyond to brainstorm their own acts of kindness, share lists with friends and family, and think outside the box. Whether these acts are public or private, large or small, each gesture can make a difference. You can find ideas and additional resources on the Neighbor 2 Neighbor website.
Thank you to St. Michael’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, Ottawa Hills, OH, for creating this event and inspiring others to join the movement!

Soul Shop is a training specific for faith communities to help start the conversation about suicidal desperation, respond with support and help facilitate connections to maintain safety.
This training is 7 hours and registration costs include participant manual and supplemental materials of community resources.
Lunch will be provided, graciously sponsored by the Andreasen Center for Wellness.
This training will not equip you to be a mental health specialist.

Dignity, Not Hate
A Call from the Episcopal Migration Caucus
The Episcopal Migration Caucus formed at this year's General Convention to support passage
of several migration-related resolutions. The caucus released this statement on October 29.
We are saddened by the need to send this message: hate speech against our immigrant siblings must not be tolerated, and our Church at every level must denounce hate speech and violent threats and act to support migrants.
We are lay and ordained members of the Episcopal Migration Caucus, formed just before the 81st General Convention of our Church in June to advocate for Migration With Dignity. We support the statements of the Rt. Rev. Kristin Uffelman White, Bishop of the Diocese of Southern Ohio, Words Matter – Speaking Up Against Hate in Springfield and the Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, Bishop of Washington, Dignity Versus Contempt. We join Bishops White’s and Budde’s call to oppose hate speech and violent threats with their devastating consequences for targeted populations and public officials.
We cannot be indifferent to the increasing anti-immigrant hate speech in our nation. While statements, resolutions, and prayers in support of immigrants are essential, they are not enough. Together we must act to:
· Offer help and support to newcomers in our communities as they make their way in this country.
· Affirm and spread The Episcopal Church’s call to Migration With Dignity embraced by our General Convention.
· Live up to our baptismal covenant to strive for justice and peace and to respect the dignity of every human being.
Hate cannot be conquered by hate. As Bishop White urges, let us “stand strong and use the words and stories Jesus taught us. Together, we can confront this hate with love, this fear with compassion, these words of evil with the words of the Good News: that the way of Jesus is the way of God’s boundless and never ceasing love.”
Let it be so.

Book Corner
An essential volume spanning the theology, tradition, and practical considerations of the altar guild ministry.
Peppered with scripture and prayers, this guide examines the history and tradition of the altar guild and elevates this role as a vocation in the life of the church. Offering definitions, instructions, and illustrations, this volume has what you need to prepare for every liturgical season, as well as a guide for special services, including weddings, funerals, ordinations, and visits from the bishop. It addresses modern challenges arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, including health and safety, virtual worship services, as well as unique opportunities for leadership in a changing ecclesial landscape.
"This is a wonderfully readable and in-depth look at the ministry of the Altar Guild. The level of detail makes it a good read not only for seasoned guild members but also those just starting out and all involved in or around the sacristy and sanctuary."

Protect Yourself from Online Scams

Baking as Prayer
The first time I understood the rhythms of my baking as a form of prayer, I was making daily loaves of sprouted wheat sourdough and sour barley pita as the pastry chef of a restaurant start-up in Boston. I was one month into a six-month commitment in a kitchen environment that can only be described as toxic. At the recommendation of my therapist, I began praying St. Patrick’s Breastplate with every turn of the dough: “Christ be with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, . . .” Christ in every bite that someone tastes of my bread.

Sometimes networks host webinars to share information and sometimes they develop new resources to support leaders in their local contexts.
