Statement from the Director

Dear West Orange Public Library community,

West Orange Public Library has increased the number of materials available to you on eBCCLS and eLibraryNJ, both of which are available through the Libby app. Information for how to sign up and use Libby for eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines are available here.

Recently Baker and Taylor announced that they are going out of business. Baker and Taylor, which has existed since 1828 has been the primary distributor of books and other materials for libraries for many years. Due to this, you will most likely see a temporary reduction in new book offerings available on our shelves. Because this is a national concern, this will impact what is available throughout all of the libraries in BCCLS and REBL, our consortial partners, as well as all other Interlibrary Loans (ILL).

As well as increasing our digital holdings, the West Orange Public Library is responding to this by setting up an account with Ingram, the second largest distributor of books in the country. They have access to all of the same book publishers at the same library discounts that Baker and Taylor had. However, it will take them time to gear up to so many new customers.

Sincerely,

David Cubie, Library Director

Remember, we are FINE FREE and most materials renew automatically. However, materials borrowed from some libraries in BCCLS will incur late fees. ALL items considered Lost (usually after 90 days) or Damaged will be charged a replacement fee. Link to our Fines & Fees policy here
