As we enter the November and December holiday season, we have a lot to celebrate at ALL.
We are more than 500 members strong! We are strengthening our ties with our partner in community education, the Cape Cod Community College, through exploring the use of student

interns, having ALL members as guest speakers in CCCC classes, joint projects in their media center, and many more connections. Our special events for members, both educational and social, are attracting lots of attendees. The Long Range Planning Committee is hard at work thinking in detail about the next five years, and more ways to make a good thing better.
And we would love to hear your perspective! Drop us a note. Ask us a question. Make a suggestion. Make a complaint. Or even a compliment!
We are a membership organization, and we like nothing better than hearing from our members. Just send an email to lifelonglearning@capecod.edu and attention will be paid. We are particularly looking for input from our growing group of Zoom-only members.
It’s hard to believe, but the December newsletter will be all about courses for the winter/spring semester of 2026. I don’t know about you, but 2026 seems like some year in the distant future. But as always, the future is now and at ALL, our members know how to take full advantage of the moment we are in. We learn, we share and we even grow. This is a period in our lives when we have the time to choose our own path, at our own pace.
That is something to celebrate.
Roger Shoemaker
ALL President

You Are Invited to Submit
Spring 2026 Course Proposals
| | | | The Curriculum Committee is now accepting courses for the Spring 2026 semester and invites you to consider teaching (or repeating) a 6-week or a 12-week course, on your own or partnering with a co-coordinator. | | |

12-week courses: January 26, 2026 – April 27, 2026
-
First 6-week courses: January 26, 2026 – March 9, 2026
-
Second 6-week courses: March 16, 2026 – April 27, 2026

Lew Taylor Brings Motown to ALL
Spring Semester 2026
| | | | |
This spring, ALL invites you to step inside the rhythm, soul, and cultural revolution of Motown: The Sound That Changed America.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or just discovering the magic of “The Sound of Young America,” this course offers a front-row seat to the music that moved the nation.
| | |
This 12-week course will trace the rise of Berry Gordy’s musical empire—from its humble beginnings in a Detroit bungalow to its reign as the most influential Black-owned label in American history.
Each week, the class will explore the artists who defined a generation: Smokey Robinson, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and the Jackson 5. Participants will listen to the hits, unpack the harmonies, and discuss how Motown’s “assembly line” of talent shaped not only pop music but the civil rights movement, fashion and youth culture.
Expect curated playlists, behind-the-scenes stories and spirited discussion.
| | |
Classes begin in January. No homework, no tests—just music, history and good company (and maybe some dancing). Sign up early—this one’s sure to fill up fast!

Course Coordinator
