Caring Hearts Auxiliary Hosts 19th Annual 'Keep Memories Alive' Walk | |
The 19th annual "Keep Memories Alive" Walk-in-the-Mall on Nov. 2 at the Town Center in Boca Raton, hosted by the Caring Hearts Auxiliary, drew many supporters, including Florida Atlantic University President Adam Hasner, Christine E. Lynn, donors and community leaders. This year’s event themed One Community One Walk was dedicated to the late Debi Stacy-Feiler, a Caring Hearts Auxiliary Board member and champion of local charities.
The College of Nursing’s “Nimble Nightingales” team participated along with several other groups, helping to raise approximately $85,000 for the Center’s Adult Day Care scholarships for individuals with memory disorders, caregiver programs and furnishings in the Day Center. Donations can still be made here.
| Florida Atlantic FNSA Resolution Passes With Unanimous Support | A resolution proposed by the college’s Student Nurses Association (SNA) during the Florida Student Nurses Association (FNSA) conference on Oct. 29 to 31 in Kissimmee was successfully adopted. The resolution on health care literacy and third spaces was the only one to receive unanimous support. It calls for nursing students to employ themselves as leaders in health education and as advocates to help shape environments where health literacy can thrive. Nearly 70 faculty members from Florida Atlantic University have been recognized among the world’s top 2% of scientists, underscoring FAU’s growing influence and impact across scientific disciplines. As cancer survivorship rates continue to rise, about 30% of people living with or beyond cancer experience lasting emotional challenges such as anxiety and depression. New research underscores the importance of supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of cancer survivors – not just their physical health.
Researchers from the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing conducted the first-ever scoping review focused on caring-healing modalities (CHMs), including mindfulness, peer support, and expressive therapies, which help reduce emotional distress and strengthen resilience. The findings call for a more holistic approach to survivorship care – one that treats patients as whole people and integrates science with compassion. Read More

Members of the college's Nurses Christian Fellowship and their families joined the annual Blood Cancers United Light the Night Walk on Oct. 25, in West Palm Beach. The team raised funds and walked to honor those who have passed, celebrating survivors and supporting individuals currently battling leukemia and lymphoma.
| | Student Veteran Spotlight: Reede Walke | | |
Reede Walke, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, is set to graduate in December 2025 with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Florida Atlantic University. Inspired to pursue nursing after witnessing the dedication of medical personnel during his combat deployments, Walke focused his career on psychiatric-mental health, motivated by the mental health challenges faced by fellow veterans.
With a longstanding family tradition of military service and a commitment to serving others, he has already earned degrees in psychology and nursing, and he currently works as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. After graduation, Walke plans to remain with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he hopes to make an even greater impact.
“The DNP will open doors to roles in management, education, quality improvement, and more,” he said. “The sky is the limit with a doctorate in nursing.” Read More
| Alumnus Spotlight: Angel Solorzano Martinez, Ph.D. '23 | |
Angel Solorzano Martinez, Ph.D., DNP, MSN, MBA, RN, CNS, PMHNP-BC, is a leader in nursing innovation and advocacy. The proud Florida Atlantic graduate earned his Ph.D. in December 2023 and has since excelled in academics, clinical leadership and mental health advocacy. Currently, Dr. Solorzano Martinez holds several vital roles at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California, as an assistant professor and program director for the DNP-PMHNP, MSN-PMHNP and PMHNP-Certificate Programs. He also serves as the associate editor for the Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (JAPNA).

College of Nursing Advisory Board member Tim Snow, founder and president of the George Snow Scholarship Fund, accepted the Susan Whelchel Award (Best Nonprofit) on behalf of the Fund at the 2025 Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton Mayors Ball on Nov. 1. Since its inception, the Fund has awarded over $36 million in scholarships and support services to nearly 3,700 local students.

Lynn College of Nursing is bringing attention to a concerning public health issue – early-onset breast cancer and the rising rates of breast cancer among women diagnosed under age 50. Led by Tarsha Jones, RN, Ph.D., principal investigator and an associate professor in the college, the research focuses on young breast cancer survivors and highlights the critical importance of genetic testing, risk-reduction and family risk communication.
