The fall season has fully arrived in Croton-on-Hudson! The leaves are coming down quickly this year and the Dept. of Public Works has begun their annual collection schedule this week (details below). Last month, the annual Goblin Walk took place along Old Post Road and Grand Street followed by the Howl-o-Ween dog parade at Croton Landing! Photos from both events are included later in this email, or you can see videos from both events on our Facebook page. Thank you as always to the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce for their support of the Goblin Walk and to Cathy Quinn and her cadre of volunteers for organizing the dog parade.
The Dobbs Park Improvements Project has officially begun with the replacement of the baseball field infield fence having been completed last week. Over the next few weeks, the infield grass will be replaced and the outfield fencing will be repaired/replaced as needed. The playground and basketball court replacement is tentatively slated to begin in February 2026, with completion scheduled for April 2026. Work on the Croton EMS addition to the Harmon Firehouse is nearing completion. This project was largely conducted in-house by our Dept. of Public Works under the leadership of General Foreman Scott Marsh, and members of our building maintenance division: Mike Esposito, Ryan Gilroy, Luciano Ponce Ponce, and Brian Senno. As a result of their hard work and diligence, the project will be finished within the given budget and on schedule. The Village Board will be holding a Public Hearing on November 19, 2025, at 7 PM at the Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building to consider expanding the residential parking permit system along Hastings Avenue and Young Avenue. A survey conducted in September 2025 found that a majority of residents living on these streets supported the permit system. Residents are welcome to attend the public hearing or submit written comments in advance for the record. Click here for more information on the proposed local law to enact the expanded permit system.

For individuals and families impacted by the potential suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on November 1, help is available through Feeding Westchester, Croton Caring and the Croton-Cortlandt Food Pantry.

2025 Veterans Day Ceremony

Location: Veterans Corners, Cleveland Drive and Old Post Rd. South
Join the members of American Legion Fox-Eklof Post 505 and the Village of Croton-on-Hudson in honoring at the annual Veterans Day Ceremony. All are welcome. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Holy Name of Mary Church gymnasium at 120 Grand Street.

New Law to Protect Trees
Local Law No. 13 of 2025, which significantly strengthens regulations for the protection of trees, has gone into effect in Croton-on-Hudson. This law, which repeals and replaces the former Chapter 208, Trees, of the Village Code, strengthens the tree replacement requirements in the code and increases penalties for the illegal removal of or injury to trees. Re-Launch of Slow Down Croton Campaign
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson has announced the re-launch of the “Slow Down Croton” safety campaign this fall. New lawn signs, available free to residents, will encourage drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians to observe the rules of the road. This re-launch comes four years after the second version of the “Slow Down Croton” campaign and nine years after the original campaign. To learn more about the campaign, click here.

Seasonal Parking Permit Applications Now Available
Residents without feasible off-street parking are eligible to obtain a permit.
As the winter season approaches, it’s important to be familiar with Village regulations and protocols regarding snow removal. While on-street parking is generally allowed during the winter, residents must remove their vehicles from the streets if two or more inches of snow have accumulated to allow the Department of Public Works (DPW) to clear the streets. Plowing will continue until the snow has stopped and the streets have been fully cleared. Learn more about the parking and permits here.

The Department of Public Works will vacuum leaves from November through December. An estimated schedule for Leaf Collection is available on the DPW website. Please note that this schedule is subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
Only loose leaves left at curbside will be picked up - bagged leaves will NOT be picked up. Please keep leaf piles out of the roadway (see photo to the right). Please do not park on or near leaf piles. Twigs, branches and other yard debris should not be mixed in with the loose leaves.
The Village recommends that residents mulch their leaves on their property. As a reminder, the operation of power lawn mowers, rakers, leaf blowers, or other motor-driven lawn or garden equipment is not permitted outside the hours of 8 AM and 8 PM Monday through Friday, 9 AM and 6 PM Saturday, and 10 AM and 6 PM Sunday.

Summer storage is official over so please remove your kayak or canoe or secure your spot for winter storage at the Echo Canoe Launch. Registration for the Storage Season (November 1 - April 1) is open online, click here.

As part of the Health Fair, the Village and Save Mor Pharmacy hosted their annual joint vaccine clinic, where 100 residents were able to be immunized against the flu and COVID-19. Croton Point's Lost Colony

They had a baseball team, a community center, weekly dances, and a flourishing newspaper, until the county quietly evicted them. Village Historian Marc Cheshire will present the fascinating history of Croton Point Park, from the time of the first Native American settlements to the capping of the “garbage dump.” Discover tales of witches guarding Captain Kidd’s buried treasure, how the cannons fired at the British ship Vulture led to the capture of Major John André during the Revolutionary War, and the extensive plans once proposed to transform Croton Point into “Playland West.” Register here by November 13, 2025. Croton Point History & Nature Hike

Location: Croton Point Park
Croton Point Park Naturalist John Phillips and Village Historian Marc Cheshire will lead a hike exploring Croton Point’s history, natural history, archaeology, and geology. The hike will last roughly 1.5 to 2 hours and is free to attend so please wear sturdy shoes. Meet at the gate to the RV park, where parking is available. Ages 6 and up are welcome.

Village offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day. Sanitation will be picked up village-wide on Monday, November 10th.
The Village will also be closed on Friday, November 27 and 28th for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Recycling will be picked up village-wide on Wednesday, November 28th.
