The Rituals of Psi Iota Xi
The Rituals of Psi Iota Xi Sorority are over one hundred years old. They are beautiful in their flow from one to the other, like an engagement through death. The traditions that we hold dear show our sisters how special our bond is to each other. The formal pledge and initiation of a new member is a way for our sisterhood to show them just how special they are to us and what a big commitment we are making to each other.
The Pledge Service is optional but there are good reasons for a chapter to have one. It provides an opportunity for the conductress to inform new pledges of the history of Psi Iota Xi as well as relate specific chapter responsibilities to the pledges. It allows the pledge to get to know the membership before they are initiated into the chapter. Once pledged, potential new members may help with projects and attend meetings to see what being an active member will be like.
The Psi Iota Xi Initiation Service is a beautiful mix of the past and the present. This is true whether your chapter uses officers or an initiation team to perform the service. Sometimes it is nice to recite some of the songs as poems instead of singing them all. Robes or stoles are beautiful and make an initiation a special event, but not all chapters have access to them. Every chapter has its own unique traditions that they share and celebrate with their new members.
The Memorial Service is well worth doing for a beloved lost sister. It is lovely and ties sisterhood in Psi Iota Xi from beginning until end. Officers present yellow roses either into a floral crest or a vase to represent the friendship, loyalty, and the love shared with this sister.
National Council would like to provide each chapter with a copy of our complete ritual service as well as the words for our songs and the music for our National Song. You will find a link below to download for your use.

Beta Tau Frankfort, IN went out on a creative limb and used their 2018 National Convention profits to have a mural painted. For a few years, Beta Tau members have been considering how they could best use the convention profits. The idea of a mural was tossed around. This mural would tell the story of Psi Iota Xi. A few years ago, members began working with the Frankfort Mayor and the Parks Department to make our idea become reality.
The scope of the mural was put in writing, and the bidding process began. Local artist, Ricardo Cortez, was chosen to design and paint the mural. He wanted to help us tell our story through his detail and design. Ricardo also wanted others to be a part of this beautiful artwork, so he enlisted help from additional artists during this journey. His passion for what he does shines through.
The mural is 684 square feet and is located one block from the courthouse square in Prairie Creek Park on East Washington Street.
The Chamber of Commerce, Mayor, Judy Sheets, and the Frankfort Parks Department coordinator, Kim Black, organized a ribbon cutting and dedication when the mural was complete. On Saturday, October 3, 2025, our beautiful mural was dedicated. The Farmer Bank sponsored the stage area, and Bob Seger and AC/DC cover banks provided entertainment. Beth Keeney, PIX National President in 2017-2018, thanked everyone in the community and the Psi Iota Xi members for earning the funds that created the newest community artwork. She thanked Ricardo and others involved in making this vision a reality.
Stop by Frankfort sometime and look for this art project which encompasses our focus areas and tells our story!
