Some of the marchers at the Haverford Rally | | | | Seven Million of Us Marched Oct. 18 - Now That's How You Build a Coalition! | | |
On Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, the League of Women Voters was an official national partner for the No Kings 2 peaceful day of mobilization to stand in solidarity with partners and stand up against hate and authoritarianism. The League has consistently and boldly spoken up in the face of rising authoritarianism. This is an opportunity to put words into action and show up in defense of democracy and as an effective ally.
Locally League members took part in several events, in Springfield, Media, Haverford and Philadelphia. The fact that more than 7 million marched brought us close to the 8.5 million goal the National League has set as representing the 3% of the population needed to affect change.
The League will keep working in coalition with other organizations to oppose the lawless, authoritarian regime that now occupies the White House. We remain nonpartisan - supporting no candidate or party, but we also remain vigilent in defending democracy.

| | | | The League is Proud of Delco Election Bureau | | Delco Elections Director Jim Allen at County Council Luncheon last year | | |
The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), the federal agency that certifies voting equipment, has issued a report commending Delaware County’s process for authenticating voting system software before and after each election.
EAC officials observed the County’s “hash testing” process, a best practice that exceeds the testing requirements mandated by state or federal laws. Hash testing verifies that the software on the County’s voting equipment exactly matches the version that was certified by the federal government. Delaware County was the first in Pennsylvania to adopt hash testing as an additional layer of verification to guard against undetected changes or malicious tampering, thereby bolstering transparency and public confidence.
“Over the past decade, skepticism about elections has grown nationally,” said Jim Allen, Director of the Delaware County Elections Department. “Hash testing is one way Delaware County addresses those concerns directly, showing our commitment to transparency, security, and public trust.”

Let's celebrate it and defend it in the future as voter suppressors continue to try to diminish and gut it. LWVUS: The League Leads Suit to Stop Giant Government Database Targeting Citizens
LWVUS is the leading plaintiff, along with two state Leagues - Virginia and Louisiana - and the Electronic Privacy Information Center, in a landmark class action suit filed Sept. 30 against the federal government seeking to stop it from illegally consolidating and using sensitive personal information across federal agencies.
The suit, filed in the District of Columbia District Court, alleges that the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the Department of Homeland Security, the Social Security Administration and other departments, have secretly merged our personal information into one "emergency database" in violation of the Privacy Act of 1974 and the U.S. Constitution.
This centralized national citizenship and immigration database is now being used to mine for undocumented aliens, purge voter rolls and open criminal investigations. The suit alleges the database is composed of Social Security accounts, tax records, voter information from compliant states, and Health and Human Services data, including medical records, biometric data and children's case files.
If the court certifies a class, it would comprise all U.S. citizens and legal residents, more than 300 million of us. This would be historic and probably unlikely for many practical reasons. Nevertheless, the U.S. Supreme Court has required suits like these to be filed as class actions. The remedy the plaintiffs are seeking is to restore the databases to what they were before DOGE merged them.
