IASD 2027 is heading to Atlanta!

http://iasdconferences.org/2027

May 29 – June 2, 2027 | Atlanta, Georgia

Save the date! The 44th Annual International Dream Conference is coming to the Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta, May 29–June 2, 2027. Join us as we gather a global community of researchers, clinicians, educators, artists, authors, therapists, students, and dream enthusiasts from around the world for presentations, workshops, dream art, community, and connection, to explore the many dimensions of dreaming.

The Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta is our conference site and part of the vibrant metropolitan area. We have reserved a limited block of 150 rooms at a discounted conference rate of $110 per night, good for up to 3 days before and after for those who want to come early and or stay after to explore the area. Attendees can enjoy easy access to diverse dining, cultural attractions, and outdoor destinations, while Atlanta itself offers world-renowned attractions, rich history, arts, music, and Southern hospitality. The Sonesta is located in Duluth, approximately 35 miles (55 km) northeast of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport – one of the world’s largest international airlines hubs.

The Conference: This premier international gathering is devoted entirely to the study and exploration of dreams. During five unforgettable days, choose from over 100 presentations from 20 or more countries around the globe. More than just a conference, it’s a festival, with special events such as the Dream Telepathy Contest, the internationally acclaimed Dream Art Exhibition and the ever-popular costume Dream Ball. You can check on the anticipated sessions and events in the preliminary schedule structure here.

Call for Presentations Open – deadline for submissions December 18, 2026

Share your research, ideas, experience, or work with the international dream community. The program is multi-disciplinary, and proposals are peer reviewed. High-quality proposals are invited which fall into any of the following tracks: Research and Theory; Clinical Approaches; Dreams & the Arts; Spirituality and Philosophy; Dreamwork Practices; Extraordinary, Psi, and Lucid Dreams; Dreams and Ethnicity; Culture and History; and Dreams and Health. Submission Categories include Talks, Symposia, Panels, Workshops, Special Events, Morning Dream Groups, and Poster Papers. All submissions must be made online using the forms available here.

Continuing Education Credits (CEs) are planned for selected sessions. The International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD) maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Volunteer opportunities fall into 5 categories: 1) Registration positions: Setup or Registration Desk; 2) Room Monitors; 3) Audio-Visual positions: AV Volunteer or Zoom Host, 4) Art Exhibition and 5) Wellness Support Volunteers. We also maintain an active waitlist for cancellations. To find out more about each position and to apply, go to the Call for Volunteers here.

Call for Art: 2027 IASD Dream Art Exhibitions

The IASD Arts Committee invites artists to submit work for the 2027 Dream Art Exhibitions.

This year, artists may choose between two opportunities:

the Juried Dream Art Exhibition and the new Online Open Dream Gallery.

The Juried Dream Art Exhibition will feature selected works presented at the annual IASD conference. Artists may submit up to three pieces for jury consideration, with selected works eligible for Dream Art Awards and additional recognition.

New this year, the Online Open Dream Gallery offers a non-juried opportunity for artists of all experience levels to share dream-inspired work with the IASD community. Work will be accepted when it relates to a dream and the image is suitable for online presentation.

Artists may apply to either exhibition—or both—using separate applications.

Submissions opened November 1 and will close April 1.

We welcome work in any medium inspired by dreams.

Apply at https://iasdconferences.org/2027/call-for/artwork/

Ernest Hartmann Student Research Awards for 2027

Inviting Submissions

The IASD Student Research Awards are given to students (undergraduate and graduate) in two areas: best original scientific research on dreams and dreaming; best original historical, literary, artistic, or theoretical research on dreams. There will be three awards of $500 each. We are pleased to announce that anonymous donors have graciously agreed to provide matching funds for the 2027 competition! The IASD Board of Directors will provide the balance of funds.

There is a 5,000 word maximum for all submissions.

Deadline for submissions is March 15, 2027

For more information and to submit your presentation using our online form, go to: https://asdreams.org/student-awards/

The 2027 Pledge Drive officially runs from mid-November 2026 through the end of January 2027. You’ll hear more about it mid-month, but you are, of course, welcome to donate early.

IASD is a worldwide community of scientists, artists, therapists, and seekers who believe dreams matter. Your participation, ideas, and support keep this community thriving and encourage creativity, inclusiveness, and discovery around the globe.

Besides supporting operations, generous members and friends make nearly every IASD award possible. Each year we fund diversity initiatives including conference scholarships for members of underrepresented communities; and awards for student research and dream-related art.

Recent IASD Dream Science Foundation Research Grants have supported projects on topics including Nightmare Disorder and EMDR therapy, Impactful Dreams, REM Sleep Behavior Disorder, and the Dreams of College Students of Color and First-Generation Immigrants.

If IASD has enriched your life, we invite you to pay it forward with a donation in any amount that’s meaningful to you, helping future dreamers, researchers, and practitioners benefit as you have.

Every donation helps ensure that IASD remains a home for dreamers—one that educates, inspires, and connects us all. These are tax-deductible in the US; check if your country has a reciprocal agreement—several do.

Bernard Welt, Regional Events Committee

Your IASD regional representatives met virtually on October 24, with dreamers from the Americas, Europe, and Asia taking part. Membership Committee Chair Patrick Stern discussed strategies for involving members in spreading the word to more dreamers all over the globe—not only to expand membership and support worthwhile programs such as research and scholarships, but to broaden understanding of the current state of dream studies in all fields and areas among all those captivated by dreams. Regional representatives are forming plans for local gatherings—on a smaller scale than regional conferences—with presentations and interviews with researchers and dreamworkers. We also benefit hugely from new YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram posts.

International conferences bring us all together, but the IASD regions have great potential as dream communities that stay in touch through the year: holding events, encouraging dream-sharing groups, and expressing the regional culture that makes approaches to dreams and dreaming distinctive. Our organization has always thrived on exploring both the universality and the diversity of dream experience, and we always will.

News from all around: A Santa Cruz "Dreamers' Lunch" will be held November 14. Contact Regional Rep Katherine Bell (krbell6@gmail.com) to join the list for this and future events.

IASD Announces New Website Design

Our redesigned website launches this week!

The update brings a fresh look along with improved navigation and functionality.

During the switchover, the site may be unavailable for a day or so.

If you can’t reach it right away, please check back soon.

Thanks for your patience, and many thanks to our new webmaster, Joey Mansfield, for his work.

This month's links to evidence-based articles on dreams for a non-research audience offer

two contrasting yet compatible approaches.

Dream incubation

Can a dream help you solve a problem? Here’s how to try tonight

Allison Aubrey

“Today there's a resurgence of interest and new research [in dreamwork as therapy]. And one ancient practice is getting a fresh look: dream incubation, planting a question in your mind before sleep in hopes your dreams will offer insights....

“In a small study from the 1990s an instructor [Deirdre Barrett, PhD] at Harvard Medical School asked college students to focus on a problem at bedtime. About half reported a dream related to it, and many felt the dream contained a solution.”

The Wild Unpredictability of Your Dreams

Kelly Bulkeley, PhD

“Even people who practice dream incubation rituals are only making a sincere request of their dreams, not a command of obedience. With its uncanny freedom and stubborn autonomy, the dreaming imagination will either respond to the incubation request or it won’t….

“No need for interpretation or decoding, just focus on what it feels like to be the dreamer of such marvels.”
