Every Day is a Gift
Sandie Carlson | National President | Theta Kappa, Edon, OH
When a sudden medical emergency nearly took her life, National President Sandie Carlson was given a second chance. Now, she shares how that experience changed the way she sees each new day and what it taught her about gratitude, hope, and the strength of our Psi Iota Xi sisterhood.

Giving Thanks, Giving Back
November is a time to pause and reflect on the many things we are grateful for – our sisters, our friendships, our communities, and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.
Through our commitment to art, literature, music, speech and hearing, we continue a tradition of service that reaches far beyond our individual chapters. Every project, grant, fundraiser, program, and act of kindness is another way we give back and help strengthen the communities we call home.
Take for example the sisters of Alpha Lambda, Zionsville, Ind. Chapter members gathered for the 23rd annual Run for Sound 5k this fall to support one of our national projects – Hear Indiana. Alpha Lambda raised more than $1,300, helping Hear Indiana exceed their fundraising goal of $60,000!
As we celebrate the season of gratitude, let us also celebrate the difference we make together. Our greatest gift is the opportunity to use our talents, time, and hearts to help others.

Bethel University ASL and Interpretation Scholarship
Jane Patton | National Project Chair | Alpha Omicron, Vincennes, IN
Bethel University, located in Mishawaka, Indiana, established its American Sign Language and Interpretation program in 1995. In 1998, Theta Delta, Bremen, Ind., began supporting the American Sign Language and Interpretation Student Scholarship. Proposed as a national project in 2011, the scholarship received membership approval at the 2012 National Convention.
During their senior year of the program, students who are approved can take the INT 450 internship course. The course is a 15-week capstone placement with an interpreting agency or similar organization. Placements are available throughout the United States, including Illinois, Ohio, Texas, and Tennessee. The funds, donated by Theta Delta and Psi Iota Xi National Project Fund, provide financial support to students during their 15-week unpaid internship.

South Bend, Muncie tickets still available
Jane Patton | National Project Chair | Alpha Omicron, Vincennes, IN
With generous support from the Endowment Fund of Miss Elsie I. Sweeney of the Epsilon Chapter in Columbus, Indiana, Psi Iota Xi Sorority provides students with free tickets to live orchestral performances.
Demand for student symphony tickets has been strong this year. Although the original request deadline has passed, we will accept requests until all remaining tickets are claimed. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Evansville Philanthropic tickets are fully reserved, but tickets are still available for the South Bend Symphony and Orchestra Indiana in Muncie.
Please share the ticket request information and concert schedules with teachers, youth group leaders, and homeschool co-ops in your communities. By spreading the word, you can help more students experience a live performance by one of these outstanding musical organizations.

At the 2026 National Convention, attendees listened to a presentation on the basic functionality of generative A.I. tools like ChatGPT, CoPilot, and Claude. The presenters also shared several potential use cases for chapters to help them streamline certain tasks. In the A.I. Corner column, we’ll explore different ways you can utilize A.I. in your chapter’s work.
Taking meeting minutes can be one of those necessary tasks that no one particularly enjoys. A.I. can help make the process a little easier!
With permission from those attending, record the audio of your chapter meeting and use a transcription tool to create a transcript. Then, upload the transcript along with your chapter’s meeting-minutes template to an A.I. tool such as ChatGPT, Copilot, or Claude. Ask it to use the transcript and template to draft your meeting minutes in the same format your chapter normally uses. A member can then review the draft, correct any errors, and make sure it accurately reflects the meeting before finalizing it.
🔒 A note about privacy: If you are using a free version of an A.I. tool, be cautious about uploading confidential, sensitive, or personally identifiable information. Depending on the tool and its settings, information you submit may be used to improve or train the broader A.I. system. When in doubt, leave sensitive information out—or check the tool’s privacy and data-use policies first.
