Student Survey - Biking and Walking to School
We are asking all students to fill out a survey that Hillview is conducting on walking or biking to and from school. The survey here has ten quick questions for students about how you got to and from school on November 28 and 29. We are hoping that students complete the survey (easy!) by the end of Thursday, November 29.

Policy on Air Quality and Student Safety
Hillview uses data through Bay Area Air Quality Management District and Air Now. Our practice is to operate under Shelter in Place protocol - no outdoor activity - when the Air Quality Index (AQI) is in the low range of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (101 - 150 AQI.) We also advise our students to come to the office if they are not feeling well.

The official advisory for the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (Active Children and Adults, and People with Respiratory Disease, such as asthma) is that this group should limit outdoor exertion . When the Unhealthy range is reached, the advisory changes to say that the same group should  avoid  prolonged outdoor exertion , and that all others,  especially children, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion .

Refer to Superintendent Burmeister's November 16 communication   here on MPCSD's position on conducting school during times of poor air quality.

Expect Respect Workshop
Friday, November 30, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the PAC.  Hillview is looking for 35 great student leaders to help drive the next school culture initiative. If you have great ideas to help improve the school, a desire to lend a helping hand, a passion for doing good, or all of the above, check in with Mr. Chui before Friday, November 30 to sign up for the Expect Respect Workshop.

Medication at School
If your student carries or requires any medication (including over-the-counter) at school, medication authorization from your student's health care provider is required.  Forms may be printed from the district website here  or you can email Nancy McMahon here  for the necessary forms.

Parent Volunteers for Science Project
Wednesday, November 28 and Thursday, November 29, from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., or any part thereof. Your job: provide feedback to students on their Follow the Heat project insulator inventions. We are open to the entire community of Hillview parents. Contact Julie Hilborn here for more information.

Thanks to a generous donation from the PTO, we just added 24 books to our OverDrive digital collection! These are GREAT for long drives. Details and directions can be found on the slideshow here. Still have elementary schoolers in the car with you? Check out the library website for a list of family-friendly audiobooks here.

If your student gets bored over Thanksgiving break, remind them that they can check out up to five items (eBooks and audiobooks) on OverDrive using virtually any device, computer or dedicated eReader. The password is six digits, starting with 62 and ending with their iPad passcode. We are happy to help with the OverDrive and Sora apps!

Hillview After-School Sports
Basketball
Thank you to everyone who came out for our basketball evaluations. A huge  thank-you to everyone who offered to help coach a team this year. Thank you  also to the many people who helped recruit our coaches. We ended up with a  great group of coaches that you will enjoy heading your teams.

A Special Thank You also to the people who helped run this event for us - Jeff Bell,  Mary Briot, Art Weil, and Harry Bell. Without their support this weekend would not  have been possible.

Teams have made contact with players and provided practice schedules. Practice schedules will change or may be canceled over the holiday break. Refer to your coaches for what those schedule changes will be.

League Games will be starting the week of December 3 for 6th-grade boys  and girls and 7th-grade boys. Games will start the following week for 7/8th-grade  girls and 8th-grade boys.
Go Hawks!
