Stay Home Guidelines - Flu and Cold Season
Keep our students and staff healthy during cold and flu season, report all illnesses and keep y our student at home if they have:
  • Any contagious disease
  • Nausea or vomiting within the last 24 hours
  • Temperature over 100 degrees F. Temperature needs to be normal for 24 hours before returning to school
  • Frequent coughing or very runny nose
  • Diarrhea within the last 24 hours
  • Sore throat
  • Severe headache
  • Skin rash - All rashes must be diagnosed by a doctor
  • Open sores, unless the area can be covered with a dressing
  • Earache, toothache or other severe pain

Hillview realizes that maintaining a safe classroom takes a certain amount of effort and diligence on your part, and we thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping us provide a safe, healthy environment for all of our students.

Ramping up your Immune System and Environmental Defenses 
Some helpful suggestions:
  • Wash hands often with soap and water or alcohol hand cleaner
  • Get a flu vaccine
  • Drink lots of water
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Stay away from people who are sick
  • Clean surfaces in your house regularly using a bleach-based household cleaner

Drama
Auditions for Hillview Drama Spring Musical, Beauty and the Beast
December 4 and 5, after school. Dance auditions will be held on December 6, after school, and callbacks, December 7. You will find more information about what to prepare for your audition, tips to make your audition more successful and details about the schedule here. The sign-up document can be accessed here too!

Dance
Dance and Cheerleading Spirit Squad
Practices - Wednesdays, December 6 - March 7, 2:35 - 3:35 p.m., Fitness Room. We are looking for enthusiastic students to join the team! Students will represent Hillview! You will learn dance and cheer technique, stunts, sideline cheers, and pom pom routines. Students will perform at various school events, basketball games, and Hillview's annual Dance Show March 1- 3, 2018. Register and find more information here.  Questions to Katie DeAnda here .

Service Team
Toiletry Kit Drive
Monday, November 27 - Tuesday, December 5, drop-off at Hillview office. We will be assembling toiletry kits for the individuals and families living in the interim CityTeam Shelters, a non-profit serving the homeless in the Bay area. We would appreciate any donations of travel-sized toiletries for this project. Sign up here to donate supplies to make 100 kits! You may drop off your items in the bin in the Hillview office.

After-School Sports
Volleyball and Flag Football
Player uniforms for flag football or volleyball should be returned to the Hillview front office or to your coach. T hank you for your cooperation.

Basketball
After-school basketball practice has now officially started. We expect players to attend practice regularly. There will be two league games for 6th- and 7th-grade teams and one game for 8th-grade teams before winter break.

The 7th-grade girls teams have room for a couple of players. Players of all grade levels who missed early sign-ups can join the waiting list here

Scholarships are available for all Hillview-supported sports.  Refund deadline for After-School Basketball has passed. There are no more refunds. We thank you for understanding.

Movie Night Arranged, November 28, 6:30 p.m., Menlo Park Library will present a free screening of the award-winning film about two young women of different religions who, as they become friends, discover that they are both going through arranged marriages. 

Holiday Tree Lighting December 1, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., Fremont Park. The City of Menlo Park invites you to its fifth annual Holiday Tree Lighting event. Enjoy live entertainment from digital artist Jeremy Sutton and music by the Merrie Olde Christmas Carolers, free hot cocoa, a visit by Santa and his elves and Mayor Kirsten Keith lighting the holiday tree. The event is free and will occur rain or shine.

It's a Wonderful Nutcracker December 8 - 10 and 15 - 17, M-A PAC. Blended with the storyline of the classic film It's a Wonderful Life, Menlowe Ballet's production is set in the 1940s and boasts all the magical trimmings of a traditional Nutcracker. Your family will experience surprising twists on both stories and a heartfelt message that giving and receiving 'presents' is just part of what makes the holidays wonderful. Hillview performers include Katherine McLaughlin and Joanna Parks. Tickets available here.

Dance Connection Presents The Nutcracker December 1 and 2, Smithwick Theater, Foothill College. It's a Bay Area tradition to celebrate the holiday season with an outing to see The Nutcracker. One very special Peninsula production features 103 young girls and boys (6 years to young adults) from several cities along the peninsula. Purchase tickets online here in advance.  

Dancers Repertory Theatre Presents 'Twas the Night Before Christmas
December 3, 9, 10; Woodside Performing Arts Center. This dance-theatre event includes Santa and his magical sleigh, prancing reindeer, dancing mice, twirling toys, and a cast of over 80 children and adults. We are pleased to announce that MPCSD's Brigid Cutright, Maia Goel, Madison Golbon, Marta Mordec, and Carolyn Sanie will be performing this season. All seats are reserved; get tickets here.

Restless Legs Syndrome Study, Stanford Sleep Medicine Center
Does your adolescent, age 13-17, have Restless Legs Syndrome? If so, he or she may be eligible to participate in a clinical trial of an investigational medication. Participants will receive extensive sleep evaluation and reimbursement. For more information, please call Polina Davidenko at (650) 721-7552.

T his newsletter is published by Hillview School parent volunteers every Sunday of the school year, except for Sundays preceding a full week of vacation.
 
Submissions : The deadline to submit for the Sunday Hillview Newsletter is Wednesday at noon . Email your submission to hvnewsletter@mpcsd.org . Note that submissions may be edited for content and/or length. Submissions received after the deadline will be eligible for inclusion the following week. Submissions are eligible to run for up to two weeks.

Submissions for Off-Campus Community Event: E mail your announcement to  communitynews@mpcsd.org . The submission deadline is  Wednesday at noon.
