ADVENT STUDY - STARTS TODAY

Are you feeling weary? Need a spark of hope?

During this time of Advent, join in the discussion study of The Weary World Rejoices by Kate Bowler. Sessions meet on Wednesdays, starting today, November 27, with a choice of two times: 10:30-11:30am at Friendship Village or 5:30-6:30pm on Zoom. Daily Advent Readings available free online or to print at katebowler.com/advent. Please email the church office to register.

FAMILY PROMISE

We host Family Promise starting this Sunday, December 1. We offer temporary shelter for displaced families while they seek permanent housing. You can help by setting up Sunday school rooms into bedrooms before they arrive for the week, preparing a meal, hosting an evening activity (yoga, music, games, crafts, etc), providing food items for the week, clean up - laundering linens and restoring our Sunday school rooms at the end of the week. Please email Robert for more information or stop by the Family Promise sign up table on Sunday morning.

PRISON MINISTRY CHRISTMAS CARDS

We’ve done it before, and we’re doing it again! Dayspring’s prison ministry group will write 360 Christmas cards to women prisoners in a marathon afternoon session on Tuesday, December 3, at 4 p.m. We invite all interested people to join us in Room 112. Come and enjoy snacks and fellowship as we reach out to incarcerated women who seldom receive mail.

GIFT WRAPPING WORKSHOP

Do you need to up your gift wrapping skills? The holidays are approaching fast. Jo Setliff, the neighborhood gift wrapper, is hosting a workshop at 9am on Sunday, December 8. Learn the right methods, materials and tools to save time and money. Efficiently wrap a pile of gifts that you'd be proud to give your mother-in-law. Paper, bows, tags etc will be provided. Bring a real gift or just a practice box to wrap, scissors, and tape.

SECOND SUNDAYS

The next Second Sunday is December 8. Our patio is now dog-friendly! Do you have ideas how to make it even better? We're always looking for feedback! Please fill out our quick survey HERE!

TAMALE MAKING CLASS

Iglesia Aliento United Methodist Fellowship is offering a class on making tamales as a part of their annual Tamale Festival. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to make your own tamales, this is your chance! The class is on Saturday, December 13. If you’d rather eat them than make them, tamales can be ordered by December 12 and picked up on the 14th. Register/purchase HERE.

MESSIAH SING-ALONG

On Friday, December 13, at 7pm, join the Dayspring Choir, members of Cantilena and Euphony, and a small instrumental ensemble in this do-it-yourself sing-through of Handel’s MESSIAH. There’s no rehearsal involved, just come and sing this wonderful music—or just come and listen. This is a wonderfully informal and intimate way to experience one of the great works of Western music. Don’t miss it! (Admission by donation; $10 suggested)

A PLACE FOR ALL CAMPAIGN

We are embarking on a two-year capital campaign to fund necessary building safety and accessibility upgrades. These include a ramp and railing for the chancel in the sanctuary, updating lighting and audio in the sanctuary, replacing flooring in the Palo Verde room, improving parking lot lighting, repairing or replacing air conditioners as needed, and more. Learn more

We hope that everyone who is able will contribute some amount to our campus needs over the next two years. Please let us know what you would like to contribute by December 15th. You then have two years to make your donations. Please make your pledge online HERE.

LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE

We want to acknowledge that the holidays can be difficult. We hope and pray this year will be filled with joy and gladness. However, some of our days also may be filled with despair or loneliness or tiredness.

The Longest Night Service offers us a new way to look upon our times of emptiness and sorrow. We will be reminded that we have the promise of God’s everlasting love in the birth of the Christ Child. Our God will never forsake us even in the challenging times. There is hope and joy even in our weariness.

Please join us for The Longest Night Service to be held at Dayspring Tempe on Sunday, December 15 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Our souls and spirits will be renewed during this hour of music, scripture, meditation and silence.

HOPEKIDS TOY DRIVE

Dayspring Tempe is a drop-off site for the HopeKids Holiday Toy Drive again this year. New, unwrapped toys can be delivered to the box in the narthex by Sunday, December 15, and will be delivered to Arizona families who have a child battling a life-threatening medical condition and are in financial need as a result.

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PAGEANT

We hope to see all Dayspringers in the sanctuary for service on Sunday, December 22, at 10 a.m., when the Dayspring Children's Choir, Cherub Choir and Youth Choir will perform Sing With Us: The Christmas Story, arranged by Teresa and Paul Jennings! This performance is sure to put you in the holiday spirit. These groups have been working very hard to learn their music and script and can't wait to share it with our Dayspring family!
