ALL SOULS DAY
DIA de MUERTOS
NOVEMBER 2

Dia de Muertos, Day of the Dead, is a holiday that doesn't actually focus on death honoring the lives of loved ones. Ancient indigenous Mesoamericans brought traditions about the journey of the soul to heaven and the ongoing relationship between the dead and the living. After colonization, Spaniards Christianized Dia de Muertos as a Catholic holiday. It was intertwined with All Saints Day on November 1 and dedicated to angelitos (children) who have passed away. Dia de Muertos, also known as All Souls Day, is celebrated on November 2.

Altars holding ofrendas (offerings) are dedicated to peace and reconciliation. The spirits of our loved ones are present at their alters so we make them feel welcome with a collection of photographs, flowers, skulls, candles, personal items, favorite meals, and drinks. It is a place to honor their lives rather than focusing on their deaths.

Holy Family's Faith Committee will continue to add names of the faithful departed to the All Souls Day book throughout the month of November. Click the link below to add your loved ones' names.

HOMEWORK HELP CENTER
GRADES 4-8
TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS
We are excited to announce the opening of Holy Family's Homework Help Center. Students in grades four through eight are eligible to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM in the HFS Library. Pre-registration is mandatory.

Bilingual staff members will oversee the program and they will support any student registered to participate as they work to complete homework assignments successfully. Staff members who work at the Homework Help Center will perform regular grade checks to make sure that students with missing work have the opportunity to complete it while attending the Homework Help Center. Contact Principal Kubuske with questions.

TRACK YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS
Record your volunteer hours (TSF and family) using the link below.

VOLUNTEERING AT HOLY FAMILY
Every adult who volunteers at Holy Family is required to have a current background check on file, complete a VIRTUS training course, and sign a volunteer agreement each year. Volunteer requirements are mandated by the Diocese of Green Bay, and there are no exceptions. We strongly encourage everyone to go through the process because volunteer opportunities will come up and your name must be on our approved list prior to the event, whether it's chaperoning a field trip, selling Scrip, or helping in your child's classroom.

  • BACKGROUND CHECK Volunteers are required to provide personal references, sign a declaration form, and authorize a criminal background check (and receive a satisfactory report) Click here to complete the background check. Enter code: gbdioc04

  • All volunteers who have contact with children are required to complete VIRTUS Protecting God's Children training. Register here. The Green Bay Diocese is currently not offering in-person training, so all training is online.

SCRIP
A Message from Scrip Coordinator

There will be a scrip fundraising packet being delivered to ALL students next week with information and instructions attached. We are encouraging families to involve other friends and family to purchase scrip with an incentive for the kids. We are hoping this will be a great way to boost scrip sales during the holiday season, so please consider taking advantage of this great way to earn rebates and include your children!

We will NOT be processing any orders the week of the 22nd which is Thanksgiving week, so please plan accordingly! You are still able to use the RaiseRight app to purchase e-cards and reload existing cards. We will have sellers that Monday(22nd) and Tuesday(23rd) from 3-3:20 in the gym lobby for you to purchase cards before the Thanksgiving break.

We were notified by UPS that as the holiday season approaches, shipments are expected to have some delays, so keep that in mind when placing your orders.

We are still looking for families to sell scrip during the weekends at both St. Agnes and SEAS parishes during masses. I know the weekends can get busy, but please consider volunteering for an hour or so either Saturdays or Sundays. These hours go towards your third source funding requirement. If you are not on the signup list or haven't sold before, let me know and we can easily and quickly get you started.

Please continue to monitor your children at home for Covid-related symptoms which can include but are not limited to fever, sore throat, headache, body aches, fatigue, runny nose, stomach issues, and coughing. If your children or anyone in your household is experiencing symptoms, students should stay home. Please call our school office to report absences or to report symptoms, concerns, exposures, or positive cases.
