This Week in Middle School

Grade Seven French Immersion Program
Following the visit of the DAREIC officials from the Besancon school district, some new projects have emerged.  Our colleagues in Belfort and us would like to offer the possibility to the French and American students to participate in mobility exchanges in order to reinforce our link created during the diverse exchanges between the two classes for the past year. Please find more information about the program  here!

Our eighth graders are staying busy!

Vietnam War Foundation & Museum
On October 17th, Mr. Merrick took the eighth graders to the Vietnam War Foundation & Museum in Ruckersville. They were given an extensive tour of various exhibits including weaponry, nursing, boot camp, and the protest movement. Additionally, students were invited to climb aboard various aircraft and vehicles ranging from Huey helicopters to APCs (armed personnel carriers). Four Vietnam War veterans were on hand to lead the tours and answer questions. This trip was conducted to enhance the Cold War unit in class.

Dr. Keel visits the eighth grade class
Following Mr. and Mrs. Khan visit, Ambassador to NATO, Dr. Alton Keel, spoke to the eighth grade about his years working under President Reagan. The class has been studying the Cold War, and
Dr. Keel shared with us his personal history and involvement during the end of the Cold War.

Plans are being made for the annual Peabody School National Geographic Bee competition.  Students in grades 4-8 are invited to test their skills in geography and enjoy learning about their world’s landforms and cultures.  Grade level competitions will be held in December, and the school wide competition, which will determine Peabody’s winner, will be held January 18th at 1:30 in the gym. Our Peabody winner will take a qualifying test for the state bee to be held March 31.  Students may begin studying now by going to NatGeoBee.org.
