ANNOUNCEMENTS

From Fr James

Dear Members and Friends of The Advent,

In the life of a faithful, practicing Christian there comes a time, or there should come a time, when the faith growing inwardly will need to be shown outwardly. It is just the nature of having a deepening faith in Jesus. The love, devotion, appreciation, and thanksgiving we have internally for all Jesus has done for us, and is doing for us now, brings us to a point where we want to give something back to Him. “What can I do, what action can I take, to outwardly help the Church and others?” is the question the faithful Christian comes to ask.

It is also true that works done for Christ’s Body the Church, here in the world and for the community around the Church, can be the catalyst for our lives of faith in Jesus to grow. Our lives of faith and devotion can mature and deepen by reaching out in love and charity in the form of actions done for others. I was told a story of a long-standing and very faithful parishioner who came to the Church by first working at our Community Dinner. He wanted to help with an effort to feed those who are hungry. By volunteering at our Tuesday Night Community Dinner, he was led to a reconversion. He became a devoted worshipper and supporter of The Church of the Advent.

Both of these “directions” in our lives of faith are possible, and because of that we are offering a Ministry Fair this Sunday. When we go to the Coffee Hours following the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses, we will have the opportunity to see at least fourteen ways we can deepen our faith or put our faith into practice. Our Ministry Fair will include opportunities to learn, serve, and enhance our spiritual lives. There will be organizations, groups, and guilds stationed at tables around Moseley Hall. We can wander through the Fair, read the descriptions of the ministries, ask questions of the people representing a particular ministry, decide whether we want to take part or learn more about the ministry, and leave our name and contact information with the representatives.

Please take advantage of the Ministry Fair this Sunday. You may find a way to serve Christ’s Church, deepen your life of prayer and devotion, or learn more about the faith that has been planted and is now living in your soul.

Yours in Service to Our Lord,

The Reverend Jay C. James

Assisting Rector

Time to Change your Clocks!

Daylight Saving Time ends in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Remember to turn your clocks back one hour Saturday night – if you still have any that don't reset themselves!

Church School

Church school classes meet this Sunday for students in kindergarten through high school. The classes meet weekly on Sunday, 10:00 – 10:45. Teachers will be waiting for the students on the landing in front of the office before going to their classrooms. See you there!

Entracte this Sunday

At Entr’acte this Sunday, Dr Drew Keane will join us to discuss the use of Scripture in the Book of Common Prayer – lectionaries, canticles, and sentences. Dr Keane is Assistant Registrar of Ralston College in Savannah, GA, and served on the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music of the Episcopal Church from 2012 to 2018.

Entr’acte meets in the Library after the 9am Mass. Childcare is available in Moseley Hall.

Sunday Morning Childcare

PROFESSIONAL CHILDCARE is provided in Moseley Hall during the 9am and 11am Masses and Entr’acte sessions.

In Christian charity, we do ask that you not bring children to the nursery if they have a cold or are sick.

Parents at the 11am Mass are kindly requested to keep their children with them in church after Communion, so that the nursery area can be cleared before Coffee Hour begins.

Coffee Hours

Coffee Hour hosts this Sunday will be David Russo & Matt McNeff at 9am and Maggie & Nick Westberg and Nick & Arwen Martin at 11am. Next Sunday the hosts will be Nola Sheffer and Debbie Smith at 9am and Denise McEwen, Andrew Huss, and Wanyi Li at 11am.

Coming Up:

November 18: Family Movie Night

On Friday, November 18, families at the Advent are invited to pizza and a movie in the church library. We’ll be watching Prince of Egypt, a telling of the Exodus. Come meet other Advent families and enjoy a wonderful story. Unlike the Israelites, we will not ask you to “eat with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand”! Dinner is at 5:30. The movie will begin at 6pm.

Please RSVP to Westberg.ma@gmail.com so we order enough food!
