OUR MISSION:

St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.

We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear SRS Parents and Guardians,

This coming Monday, November 11, school will be closed for Veterans Day as we honor those who have so bravely served this country. Our country is founded on the principles of freedom, justice, and liberty for all. Our students will be honoring our veterans at 9:00 A.M. Mass on Friday, November 8; please join us. Our nation's soldiers serve every day to protect our country and its ideals. As a way of honoring our veterans, please have your child take some time on Veterans Day, to remember and thank those who sacrifice their lives to achieve peace and democracy in our country. Have your child make a phone call or pay a visit to someone they know (grandpa, grandma, aunt, uncle, neighbor, or friend) who is currently serving or has served in the armed forces. All they need to do is say thank you.

On Sunday, November 17, St. Rita School will host an Open House in conjunction with Discover Catholic Schools Week. From 12:30-2:00 P.M. the school will be open for prospective students and their families. Since our current families are the best ambassadors for our school, please invite your friends, neighbors, and family members to take advantage of this opportunity to tour St. Rita School. Individualized tours by our Crusader Club members and the opportunity to speak directly with our dedicated and supportive faculty will allow our visitors to hear about our strong academic programs and extracurricular offerings. More details can be found by clicking HERE.

The first trimester ends on November 21st. Report cards will be issued the following week. Parents of students in grades 4-8 have access to their child’s grades. Please take the time over the next few days to look at your child’s grades along with your child, and remind him/her about his/her responsibility when it comes to completing and turning in work, and making up any missed work or tests. Now is the time to have your child arrange extra help sessions if they are struggling. Do not ask your child’s teacher for any extra credit work if your child is not completing their assigned work.

If your child is absent, please notify the office, as well as the teacher, with the reason for the absence. As winter is approaching and student illnesses become more prevalent, as well as families planning vacations not coinciding with days off, it is important that all parents and students keep the following in mind regarding taking a day off from school: for each day a student is absent from school, he/she misses out on 6 ½ hours of instructional time that cannot be made up. CT law defines a truant as a child between the ages of 5 to 18 who has 4 unexcused absences from the school in one month or 10 unexcused absences in one school year. If a student reaches the threshold listed above parents will be notified.

For the Catholic Church, November is the traditional month for remembering those who have died. Praying for the dead is one of the Spiritual Works of Mercy, so during November we pray in a particular way for those we love and to whom we owe so much – the deceased members of our families, our benefactors, and our alumni. Please join us for Mass on Friday, November 22, at 9:00 A.M. which is being offered for all the deceased members of our St. Rita School community. Thank you for joining together with us in prayer now and throughout the year.

Thank you for entrusting your child/children to our care. Enjoy this gorgeous Autumnal weather.

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Nurse's Corner

COVID and respiratory virus policy change:

In conjunction with the health department, Hamden Public Schools and Saint Rita School will be adopting the new COVID policy.

If your child tests positive for COVID, they should stay home for 24 hours.

If they do not present with a fever , they can return to school after 24 hours. Wearing a mask for 5 days is advised as there is still a high transmission rate.

If they develop a fever, they should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine. They can then return to school and it is advised that they wear a mask for 5 days.

If during the 5 day mask period they develop a fever, the clock resets. They should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine. Returning to school with a mask for 5 days is advised.

Medication in school:

If your child requires medication in school, the medication must be brought in by a parent along with a Medication Administration in School

completed by the pediatrician.

Cough drops brought into school must stay in the nurse's office.

Any OTC medication should not be sent into school with your child (Advil, Tylenol, midol, allergy medicine, etc...) If your child requires any OTC medicine while at school they can go to the nurses office and a parent will be called to bring the medicine into school and administer it to their child.

PreSchool Flu Shots:

All Pre school students are required to get a flu vaccine before we leave for Christmas break. Please send in a note from the doctor after your child receives their flu shot.

7th Grade Physicals:

All students entering 7th grade must have a physical dated after May 31st of the 5th grade year. They are also required to have a tetanus booster and meningitis vaccine. If your child is in the 6th grade now, physicals for 7th grade can be sent into the health office at any time during this school year. Any physical dated after May 31, 2024 will be accepted.

Nut allergies in the classroom:

If your child is in a classroom with a student with a severe nut allergy, your child's teacher will have informed you that any foods containing nuts should only be eaten in the cafeteria. Please do not send in a snack with nut ingredients. Thank you for helping us to keep all of our students safe.

Please reach out to me at any time during the school year with any health questions or concerns.
