-----This past Wednesday, parishioners came together to offer a Holy Hour for vocations in the Church, as well as in the Archdiocese of Chicago, and in the Church of St. Mary. May our lives and our prayers be active in the support of vocations to serve generously and joyfully in our Church. Thanks to Deacon Bob Thomas for coordinating the Holy Hour this past Wednesday and the use of the monstrance that was part of the 1926 Eucharistic Congress at Mundelein Seminary.
-----Building on the prayers offered last Wednesday evening, this week is National Vocation Awareness Week. You are invited to follow the schedule listed below in your personal daily prayers.
|
|
-----May our families be training grounds for loving God and serving God throughout our lives.
-----Next weekend another of our Scouting troops is inviting your support. The Cub Scouts are going to be kicking off their annual fundraiser, selling poinsettias for the holidays. You may order the poinsettias in person after the Masses at St. Mary’s next weekend, November 13 and 14, or by going to the following link: www.scoutpack49.com/poinsettia-sales. May God bless our Scouts and the parents who help out the many scouting troops in our parish.
-----Second grade is an exciting year for our families at the Church of St. Mary. The students joyfully prepare for celebrating the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This Monday, November 8, our 2nd grade families will be coming to church for a special “Candle ceremony.” In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus’ followers are called to be the “light of the world”. As the students and their families grow in faith may they let their light shine for the entire world to see.
-----May God bless you with a grateful and thankful heart.

Remembering
our
Beloved Departed
In the Catholic tradition, November begins with the feasts of the Solemnity of All Saints on November 1 and the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’) on November 2.
This remembrance of all who have died continues through the month of November until the First Sunday of Advent. It is customary to inscribe the names of deceased persons who were beloved to members of the local community in a Book of the Names of the Dead. In writing the names and trusting that the people named will find a place in the community’s prayer, the living experience healing and consolation in the midst of their grief.
This book will be located near the Baptismal font. All of us are invited to read the names and to remember those who have died by name in our prayers. Thus the whole community prays that all who have died will find joy in God’s presence forever.
You are invited to add the names of your deceased relatives, friends, mentors, and co-workers in the Book of Remembrance, especially names of those who have died within the past year.

“I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they all contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, her whole living.” ------------------------------ (MARK 12:43-44)
Jesus gets right to the point – we are all called to give money to support the mission of the Church, regardless of our circumstance. No gift is too small or insignificant! Giving money to support the mission of our local parish is a matter of our faith, just like praying and participating in parish ministries. When you make a financial offering, is it from your “first fruits” or from what is “left over”?
