Halton Region today assured Oakville residents that health statistics show lower cancer rates in Oakville and the Joshua Creek area compared to the rest of Halton and compared to Ontario. Halton Region also assures residents that ongoing monitoring and proactive environmental oversight continue for the long-closed landfill site in the vicinity of Joshua Creek.
The other sites in the misinformation in online social media have been reviewed and cleared by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.
Mayor Rob Burton is inviting police to investigate the identities and motives of the individual or individuals spreading the false claims. "This smells like a scam to drive down real estate values for a big profit when the hysteria they generate dispels." the mayor said.
