Progress Reports and PowerPack

We are six weeks away from the end of the semester! We feel that one important piece of ensuring student success is maintaining a steady flow of communication. As a result, we have decided that progress reports will be sent home on November 18 in advance of the Thanksgiving Break to provide a clearer picture of how students are doing currently.

We messaged students last Wednesday to inform them of the new progress report on the 18 and inviting them to use these next days to review their classes and make sure they were up to date with all their work. We also let them know that the choice of sending the Progress Report on Wednesday before the break was to ensure that they had a full 48 hours before teachers disconnect for the week to get questions answered and make a realistic to-do list for themselves.

Part of the message included a reminder to use some common email etiquette to employ in all communications to their teachers and of the reality that late assignments are not "graded first" as teachers have to first ensure they too are able to stay on top of providing timely feedback for all students.

Please know, the academic team is committed to providing support for all students and we invite any student that needs support to our PowerPack structure (more info).

Thank you,

VP of Academics and Ed Tech

Advent Project - Following the STAR to Racial Justice
Our Advent project this year is called "Following the STAR to Racial Justice!" STAR stands for Speaking and Teaching about Race. During Advent, we celebrate the coming of Jesus and recognize the Three Wise men who followed the North star that led them to Jesus. The day they met him is known as the Epiphany - an “Aha!” moment. Through our Advent project, we hope your “Aha!” moment will be the realization that racial injustice is still avid in our country, and we have to be the change to push for a more loving and empathetic world. With one person advocating for racial justice and education, a STAR is born in the darkness of racial injustice. Even the smallest stars produce a beautiful light, and many stars can come together to enlighten the world. Come follow the STAR to racial justice! Our Advent project will occur over the Exploratory period, where students will learn through different activities and open discussions about racism in the US.

Student Life Updates

No Spotlight this Week!
Since we have Monday off for Veteran’s Day, there will be no Flex day or Class Spotlight this Wednesday. Last names A-K come to school on Tuesday and Wednesday. Last names L-Z come to school on Thursday and Friday.

Spotlight Changes while in Hybrid
Now that we are back to school in our hybrid learning, Class Spotlights are in-person and not virtual. All students (hybrid and distance) from a class are invited to come to school to participate in the Spotlight. If a student attends school in the distance model, but wishes to attend her class spotlight, she can after completing an online health and safety orientation. All the health and safety protocols in place for hybrid learning are followed during our Class Spotlights. Please reach out to Jennifer Reinwald, VP of Student Life and Mission, to learn more about the online orientation.

Upcoming Spotlights:
